Paypal Friends Cash sent no longer covered by purchase protection

I have been a friendly cash sender & noticed today it is explicitly stated my cash from my bank transfer:
"Does not apply for purchase protection"

I may be late in noticing this ? Or is this new ?

I think I should reserve this fee free, with 100% liability on me, payment processing option for just actual friends now ?

Thoughts ?

Not even vaguely news.

That's the point of F&F--not to cheat PayPal out of their piece of the action, but to allow people to transfer money between friends/family.

PayPal says that the "Friends and Family" option is for sending money to- well, your friends and family, not for making or receiving payments for purchases.

Lots of people here seem to think that doesn't apply to them, though.

That's right. I do not ever recall it being covered by purchase protection since it is not meant to be used for a purchase anyway.

Why can't I have purchase protection when I send my mom $100? It's almost like PayPal needs to collect a transaction fee to fund their purchase insurance.

True, but they do claim to have monitoring measures to keep transactions secure. It also only allows US accounts so probably helps from those overseas scams.
