A team like that doesn't need accompanying PR nightmare and by Opening Day it will be about 2 years since he last pitched. That said, they are will be paying him anyway and I expect a team will sign him for the major league minimum salary.

Since he has never been found guilty by a court legally or civilly and you have to pay him anyways, why not give him a chance and see what he can do. They could have brought him along slowly and had him ready for the second half of the season.
Verlander (and the rest of the team) was part of the "big cheat" and the astros were found guilty of that, yet not one of their players ever received a suspension, etc. and they got booed all the time at away games. Mets had no problem signing him to a huge contract.
Bauer's issues, at least as they stand currently, " is he said she said ", legally.
I'm just telling you like it is and why the Dodgers released him. You can't compare Bauer to Verlander; it's a completely different set of circumstances.
