Yup. Yet people are somehow constantly seeing repunched dates, shadow numbers etc

Very interesting. Apparently 1982 was the last year where regular circulated US coinage had any metal content of real value. A number of people were involved in that, curious what the whole background of that story was as copper was becoming too valuable to add to the cents.
