Objectively speaking, I place Michael Jordan a distant fifth in the list of all-time greatest basketball players. This is generally where the younger generation questions what I'm smoking, but hear me out.
Wilt Chamberlain finished with all the records, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar broke all those records, Bill Russell won all the rings (15 NBA championships along with an Olympic gold) and yet, all three men insisted that Oscar Robertson was the best player who ever played against, or with, them. So ultimately, Jordan shrinks in comparison, which is quite a trick, if you think of it. While the perception will be that Michael Jordan was the greatest, his lofty status isn't backed up by the facts.

The reason Kareem holds all those records is because he played 20 seasons.... if Jordan or Wilt had 20 complete seasons, It would be a much different story in regards to the scoring records... Also, Jordan holds the PPG record

i know other people have said this, but it's not only he accomplished them quicker, it's the whole package... Shaq, Chamberlain, Jabbar, Russell - all these guys completed dominated the game at their time... look at their size - they towered over everyone like Shaq does today... Jordan was "normal" in the sense of his size and his opponents... everyone can bring up stats, but like i have said MANY times, stats can be misleading... these Kobe lovers don't look at the whole picture...

Statistacally its BIG O who averaged a triple double per season. Most guys now have a good year if they get 5-7 triple doubles a year. THIS GUY AVERAGED A TRIPLE DOUBLE ONE YEAR
Championship wise- Its Russell. Not only as a player but as a coach. No one can do it any better.
Athletically-WILT. The man ran track-TRACK in college and could have compeated in the Olympics. They re did the rule book in the NBA because of his athletic dominance. The only reason he didnt win more was because he was too nice ( just ask the ladies )
Basketball player-MJ-NO ONE combines athleticish, tlent, intelegents and heart more. He may not hold all the records and over time he may never hold another but he DOMINATED as no player had dominated before.
one last thing, For a board of people who date themselves to Wilt & Russell and have thousands of 'log ons' on the boards the conversation on the board is nothing short of pathetic.
