Bogaerts and Devers

tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

I am so sick of hearing about these players possibly signing here or there I could scream.

If Bogaerts wants to go for the big money its his prerogative to do so, I really don't care anymore. !

As for Devers going someplace next year that too is his prerogative, trade him now while you can still get something for him as a third round draft pick for him is garbage.
.
We have a 3rd baseman now playing 1st base that we are going to give away for whatever we can get for him so put him at third and see what he can do if he is playing his natural position.

I can understand why these players want to go for the big money as they only have a limited number of years to get their money.

I will still watch them no matter who comes or goes as it is something to do and I can afford to do it for my few remaining years.

My father was a big sox fan and he never got to see them win a World Series and I have .

The players come and go and I will never again get attached to one player coming or going !

I'd love to keep them both but not at the cost of ruining the payroll for other players needed to win

There are only so many dollars to spread around unless you are as rich as Elon Musk. If. players are good enough and want to squeeze every dollar out of these owners they can get then go for it but I just don't care anymore.

Well, Judge just reupped with the Yankees for $40 million/season for 9 seasons.
Let's see, 162 games per season, that comes to $246,913 per game. $80k/hr for an average 3 hour game, half of which he sits in the dugout. Some think he deserves every penny, I think it's insane.

5 years down the road he will not be as welcome in NY as he is right now but he will still be collecting his $40000000 a year. Good luck to the Yankees on that one !

Responses like this amuse me. As if there is anyone on this board who would say no if offered $40 million to play baseball at age 39. Of course there are only so many dollars to spread around. Why begrudge Judge taking as many as possible?

I couldn't care less how much money he gets. The more the Yankees spend on him the less they will give to bring in another big time player
The Sox are bringing in players who look good on paper and they are talking seriously with Bogey so Henry has opened up his wallet.
At least they are trying to improve so we shall see what happens.
I don't know anything about that guy from Japan they just signed for 5 years.

Bogaerts got an 11 yr deal for $280 mil. Thats great for him but a crazy deal for the Padres.

Now its time to move on from Bogaerts and consider what we now have and the team so far could be an upgrade from last years and the trading season is in full swing.

As I predicted, Bloom totally asleep at the wheel. What a moron to let this Red Sox star slip away.

The guy is an entertainer and celebs gat paid a lot in the US. I just read that TV personality Sean Hannity gets paid $45M per year. I know he works all year 'round but I think it's only an hour per night :)

But Judge only "plays" 6 months a year. Using your analogy, Hannity is waaaaaaaaay underpaid. Hannity of course works much more than 1 hour per show, I suspect there's quite a bit of prep. B)

Season opened 4/7/22, season ended 10/5/22. He ain't no celeb, celebs perform exceptionally well, performance after performance after performance, otherwise they'd be gone. Never heard a sour note in the many, many concerts I've attended. However, a MLB player can go into, and often does go into a deep slump, like Judge did in October. It is a false narrative to guarantee so much money for no guaranteed performance. Far too many bozos have passed through Fenway Park after having been promised the moon and got next to zip in return. The Red Sox contract history is rife with losers.
Dicek was probably the worst, maybe Sandoval, there are so many, so many.

I seriously doubt Judge will perform as expected, Steinbrenner just told Cashman to get his a$$ out to San Diego and get Judge, no matter what. Mission accomplished. Time will tell.

Yep, the Red Sox will be pretty good this year, if Kenley Jansen can recover his form of 2016-7, Sale of 2018, Paxton 2017, Martinez 2018, and Hosmer of 2017, oh, and if Yoshida can manage to play LF competently in Fenway and hit close to what he did in Japan.

If we see those players like they were in the last four seasons, I really can't see the Sox contending for fourth place.

I like Kiki for shortstop this coming year. I think he can handle it. I really hope Devers doesn't have a setback at 3rd base because of his buddy leaving the team but just in case they should keep Dalbec on board and don't give hum away. He just could come around if he was playing his natural position at 3rd base and Devers decides to pout.

OPT OUT CLAUSES are turning out to be a major concern in contracts the past few seasons !
