    It’s Ethiopian. The alphabet is Amharic I believe. I recognised it because I have one in an Ethiopian proof set minted by the Franklin Mint back in the 70’s.

    The coins of that series were minted after the overthrow and murder of Emperor Haile Selassie. I believe they were first issued in either 1977 or 1978.
