As someone who knows more about non-US coins than US, I would value someone providing a brief explanation of what a "Type B" quarter is.

    Thanks!

Some circulation strike quartets made in Philadelphia from 1956 through 1964 were struck from reverse dies used to produce proof coins.

These couns are referred to as "Type B". These coins are listed in Coin Facts as varieties and there are photographs which show the diagnostics for same.

how much would you say you know about the various reverse die variations that are sought after for washingtons of this era? (i have a technical question in mind if you do know a lot)

I know Kevin (SanctionII) has a great eye for proof coins and obviously a Type "B" is a Business strike quarter with a proof die reverse. But if you have a question about Washington Quarter varieties I may help you with your question.

i was unaware of that type b over a or a over b that was posted recently. 50s? that ddr thread that got a good amount of posts and was curious how many years are known for rehubbed silver washington quarters.

i'm kinda shocked something so obvious has escaped my radar these many years, especially on this forum.

Well I started that thread, also not knowing that a Type A over B even existed. The only other year that I am aware of is the 1952 proof. Since it is a proof it has a Type B reverse and the space between the E and S in "States" is to have a wide gap. The gap on a Type A is more close together. Some 1952 proofs have a close gap, indicating it is a Type A. But also a Type B has a leaf tip left of the arrows above the arrows and the leaf touching the "A" in Dollar is also very pronounced.

Here is an example of a 1952 Type B Proof. You can see the gap between E and S is wide

Here is an example of a 1952 Proof with a close gap between E and S.

I believe this is a Type A over a Type B. I did not mean to hijack Kevin's thread here, but this discussion probably needs to have its own thread on the main board or add onto my original thread about the Mis-Attributed 1950-S DDR. Since I am leaving town in a few minutes, Lance if you want to move this over to the main board that would be great to get a discussion about this going.
