An Ordinary Wyon Medal, But Then This Happened . . .

(of course, no Wyon medal is ordinary). So, I purchased the medal below, simply because it came up for sale at a reasonable price and it was a Wyon medal. Lovely portrait of Victoria and a very bland reverse. But there was an inscription around the edge. "Henry Dunn. Truro. Stage 12a. 1856." I did a little googling and blew my mind. Henry Dunn, of the village of Truro, would have been about 18 at the time the medal was awarded. Henry Dunn was the assistant of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and a noted artist in his own right. Amazing to be holding a piece of 19th century art history!

William’s family isn’t bad either. Nice looking medal.
Being able to trace the medal like that certainly makes it special. Congrats!
