Finally completed this set with my last psa 9. I now have the regular set and traded in all 9's and 10's. # 3 on the PSA board. And # 3 on the traded board.

    Great accomplishment.

I'm currently doing just the regular set myself in 9+. I've been working at it off and on for around 9 years, and I'm at roughly 86% complete, and know just how tough some of these cards are. Congratulations!

That's great. The 81 set is my favorite to collect from the 80s and I have a ton that range from 7-10. Just love this set even though the design is very minimal and some of the action photos aren't great. The closeups are as good as photos in any year though.

It's so tough to find these cards centered too. I've found ones centered on the front that are terrible on the back (every Fernando rookie I've ever seen).

That's an amazing accomplishment. Not an easy set.

What are your favorite cards or give us some more insight into your particular set...

BTW, if you are interested in selling any of your loose, ungraded cards - I would be interested in upgrading my raw set that I display in binders. Thanks, Erik

    Enjoy your collection!

Tremendously impressive. I'm doing a Braves team set with the same parameters and it is not a simple undertaking.

    Let’s get to it though:

    • what were the toughest cards
    • where was PSA uniquely tough grading 81s versus other sets
    • Let’s see some pics

There are still a handful of 9s being the top grade. Tough set overall.

Some of the hard ones that I had to get. Adams #18, JOEL YOUNGBLOOD #58, BENNY AYALA #101, MIKE PARROTT #187, the whole set took me over 12 years to put together. I have all the photo/s of the set and update set on the PSA board.

It's really past time to rename that card. Only one man on that card has a chance of making the HoF, and it's not Valenzuela

That may be true but for collectors it will always be the Valenzuela RC.

Not sure about starting any long time projects. I sold my 1975 Topps set which was also all 9's and 10's, I wasn't sure I wanted to sell it but I was offer a price that was hard to turn down.
