We reported last week on a rash of catalytic converter thefts, with the Sheriff's Office holding an event on Saturday to have your vehicle's VIN number etched into the device.

That same morning, it was discovered that 33 catalytic converters were stolen from Palm Tran buses in West Palm Beach. The vehicles affected were Palm Tran Connection buses, which are used to transport elderly and disabled residents to doctor's appointments.

A spokesman says delays can be expected this week, depending on the number of buses Palm Tran is able to get repaired. Customers are recommended to try and find alternate options of transportation for the time being to avoid any major delays.

The Sheriff's Office also announced over the weekend that they are looking for a group of crooks wearing all-black clothing and ski masks, stealing catalytic converters off of vehicles from multiple businesses in Riviera Beach on August 18. They say the thieves were driving a black car.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.

Officials say the devices are sought after for their precious metals, rhodium, palladium and platinum, which sell for thousands of dollars.

Maybe Aaron has been down here in lovely West Palm Beach? Catalytic converter thefts galore here.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Five suspects have been arrested in connection with what deputies are calling a large-scale catalytic converter theft operation in St. Lucie County.

St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office deputies said the suspects, who traveled from North Carolina, are responsible for about 180 catalytic converter thefts near the 2600 block of Center Road in Fort Pierce during the Thanksgiving weekend.

    Recent Stories from wptv.com

Sheriff Ken Mascara said the closing manager of an area business called 911 Friday night after noticing two suspicious ladders positioned along a perimeter wall.

Deputies arrived and apprehended four suspects – Carlos Martinez, 30, Carlos Bonnila, 51, Jose Hernandez, 51, and Jose Funez, 39. A fifth suspect, Ladonte Hill, 29, was later identified and apprehended at a nearby hotel.

"Catalytic converters are targeted by thieves for their precious metals," Mascara said. "With the arrest of these five individuals, we hope to deny their precious freedom for a long time so they don't victimize anyone else."

All five suspects face charges of burglary to an occupied structure, possession of burglary tools with intent to use and grand theft.

Fascinating indeed, I wonder if Rodgers is still working part-time at Rick Harrison's pawn shop, he fences a lot of stolen goods there, mostly watches!
