I just saw this had the TrueView tag so of course the thread needs the TrueView!

    What did this sell for?

it isn't the top pop, it is a tied for top pop with around 6 other coins JUST at pcgs (could be some resubmits in there), so $13k+ seems like a VERY good price, imo.

It literally is a top pop though. It's at the top of the population. If 2 people summit Everest at the same time did neither of them make the top? Weird logic.

i agree. "A" top pop, not "THE" top pop. i guess it is a personal strict standard i like to maintain. one thing is for sure w/o debate, a ms68 for a quarter in this era is a nice coin indeed. :)

it is too late for this and you may not even want to get into it, which is fine but it seems a coin like this would probably realize 15-30% more with a green bean. did you try. (if you don't mind telling)

are you counting NGC? it seems PCGS has 3 total for 1947. Do you have data to support 15-30% more with green bean?

a very good point. i haven't even considered ngc, so 68 MAY not even be top pop at all.

do i have a spreadsheet tracking the exact comps supporting 15-30% more. no

do i have hundreds of auction comps over several years in my mind of seeing green beans not only bringing 15-30 more but sometimes much more of the non-green bean counterpart, yes. (there may even be thousands but my memory isn't THAT good ;) )

BUT usually it is in the 15-30 generally speaking. (i recall because of how often i was shocked at the bean premium) also depend on year sold, holder type, total pop, toning (if any), how high in the pop but green beans on top pop and/or tied top pop is a no-brainer and if the coins are essentially equal (bean vs not), obviously the beaned coin wins out. (outliers aside, holidays etc)

fwiw, all the auction companies have this data available in their archives. :)

unfortunately one of the best doesn't allow access that far back, ebay.

I didn't say "THE" top pop though. Semantics aside, it's a top pop, but no it did not sticker at CAC.

I think the language around Top Pop is fine. It doesn’t say it’s a unique top pop.
