I've started using our hosts price guide although its limited in scope. Many of the top or well known VAMs are listed (use the PCGS# dropdown) and its not behind a pay wall. I'm not sure there's an all inclusive listing anywhere. Vamworld has a section dedicated to VAM pricing but its hit or miss.

there is supposedly an updated price guide either finished or nearly but i haven't read any updates about it in a couple/few months.

other than that, using pops, active listings and sold listings plus some experience will usually get you in the ballpark. venue, pricing, timing etc, there are variables to be sure.

Check ebay sold listings for the more common ones.
Join Vamworld and sometimes the members there will help you with the tougher ones.
You could also PM Messydesk and he may be able to help.

Like stated, you also might want to talk to these guys.

A price guide has been put together on the SSDC Registry (fee to join). It needs some updating but covers the more popular varieties. The VAMWorld forums (free to join) have a "What's it worth?" forum where people ask and answer valuation questions all the time.

Never really been able to pin point a realistic price for this Vam I found raw and unattributed years ago in a dealer’s bargain silver dollar bin.

Wow! Heck of a find. Assuming it grades 62-63 (most do), this is a $4000-6000 coin. Earlier die stages sell all the time for a small premium, but this is the biggie.

H-10 with color and a MS63? I'd say 8-9K and maybe more if you get two that want the color.

    bob :)

I’ve seen 62’s that looked worse.

it is VERY odd but these are not known to grade high for some reason. however they started life, it was a ROUGH ride.

What an AWESOME cherrypick... it would be a Lifetime Best 'pick for any of us who have been in VAMs very long. Bravo!

I continue to add to a VAM sales database that I started in 2008, gathering prices from wherever I can find them. I'm getting close to 74,000 total. You coin is the best (latest) die stage of Scarface: H10. The H stands for Ash Harrison who created the scale, which goes from 0 to 10.

Your coin looks super nice for a 61, which, in days gone by, sold for as much as $9,750 (Heritage January 2012). Scarfaces don't sell very often in any grade, and most of them are not identified by their H stage. In other words, I can't cite any real recent PCGS-61 H10 sales. The three I know about are 2-4 years old and are in the $3,000 range, which IMO is cheap.

    When in doubt, don't.

Well I actually bought it 30 years ago because it looked odd. I knew nothing about Vams , but for less than $10.00, I figured what the Hell. Only about 15 years ago did I understand what I had and read about this variety extensively .

That might rank as a Top 50 all time Coin Forum cherrypick.

    Well done.

When you get into the low pops, there is no real concise price guide.

Kinda got to build your own.

I did some quick math and with a 3% year over year compounded interest applied, as long as it’s worth over $25 you did just fine.

Forgot to add that before my PCGS authorized dealer sent the coin into our hosts to be graded, he did make an offer to buy. I wasn’t sure if it would straight grade or details, because all the dealers had varying opinions of grade and surfaces. My go to dealer believed it was an unc. and would straight grade. Oh yeah he offered me only 3600, and I thought that was a low ball number. Recently he had a graded ms62 Scarface in his case for$7200, but that one was only an H7 at best. H10’s don’t come along too often!

Very nice, the Mint really milked that die to the end. I can see some Mint boss saying, "keep pressing, there's more life in that die" and not wanting to start a new Obv die.

    I see a 63 or 64 grade. It's a beautiful Dollar !
