Martin Maldonado -- Boo! Boo! Boo!

Martin Maldonado's unsportsmanlike at-bat (that ignited a 4-run rally) is one of the worst plays I've ever seen in an MLB game. I was shocked that he was awarded 1st base when replays showed that he leaned over the plate in order to be hit by the pitch. To make matters even worse, the "replay review" confirmed "Yes indeed, the batter was hit by the pitch ." Well, no sh*t Sherlock. But that's NOT part of the game. If I were the manager of the Phillies, I'd protest by having every Phillies batter do the exact same thing -- batter after batter after batter.

Pretty thorough breakdown of this by The Sporting News, with clear video and a good explanation of why the ump allowed the HBP to stand...

@charliej2356, Boo Hoo Hoo!!! Get over it already and stop beating a dead horse.
Phillies had a great run.

Charlie... maybe blame the Phillies for not being able to hit Astros pitching consistently or something legit
like that instead of that hit by pitch which he didn't even lean into. Better to just get that series over with, it
was getting pretty dull trying to watch the Phillies hit.
Can you fill us in on what MLB will have to say about that HBP because I'm pretty sure they're not
nearly upset about it as you are.

Say what? The Phillies were winning the game!
The Phillies had 9 hits in their last 98 at bats for a .091 batting average. I didn't say anything about who was winning.
The Astros clearly have better hitters and pitchers.

Yep, I agree with you. BUT, that's not the issue here.
