My NEWP 1840 Small Date N-12 cent. DLH needs it..what would you do?

RLSnapperRLSnapper Posts: 523 ✭✭✭✭✭

My NEWP for my Late Date with Major Varieties set. While researching another date I stumbled on the DLH Late Date by Newcomb Varieties set. DLH is 96% complete on this set with 373 different coins. An amazing set! Should I offer up my 1840 N-12 to DLH? Should I keep it knowing it's apparently very elusive. What should I do?

fwiw, there are a couple hundred give or take (just pcgs unattributed with newcomb number) in BN with a small handful in RB, so i HAVE to presume if he doesn't have one of these yet, availability is probably not the issue. there also are some already attributed (in pcgs pops around 40 in unc), like yours and while it is certainly not a common coin in pcgs plastic, in unc, there are others i'm sure he could put his hands on.

he has been working with DLRC for a loooong time, so if you wanted to, that is probably a good place to start. @Currin

i haven't checked his set for this slot, so i am taking your word for it. :)

Keep it if you need it, sell it if he makes it worth your while .

My small date is not worthy:

    My large date is respectable:

@LanceNewmanOCC Your numbers are right for the 1840 Sm. Dt. in total but for the N-12 variety PCGS has only graded 10 of which my NEWP is the MS62...one of 3 Unc. at PCGS.PCGS has no RB or RD in the N-12. The MS63 was the Naftzger coin Lot 630 from back in 2009. The 64 was last seen in 2017 at Goldbergs. The Robbie Brown Sale in 2002 Lot 44 mentions an N-12 as removed from a PCGS MS63RB holder. Probably unattributed on the holder. The pedigree for that coin went all the way back to Dr. George French in 1930. It was called Second Finest known. Lots 45 and 46 were also N-12 and called MS60. I have done some homework on this coin. I think I like it.
