A Dan Carr example? There is one offered on GC this Sunday. Current bid $156.78 as of 9:30 am,Friday 10/14.
That wouldn't be legal tender, would it?

No, it is listed as a Token, but he does strike these on a real 21-35 peace dollar. I recall a rumor of the mint striking peace dollars (I think in 1964) but I don't believe that any were actually released (pehaps stolen from the mint?). If some did get out, I don"t think (but do not know for sure) they would be legal to own. Perhaps some one with more knowledge can clarify.
You could not afford a legitimate USMint made 1964-D Peace Dollar if it could be found. Probably would cost in excess of $10 million or even more.
That’s true, and they are illegal to own but PCGS did offer 10k to someone willing to send one in … I do believe they are out there.
Guess I’ll have to settle for the Dan Carr version (which was actually what I was looking for) - thanks much
My old mentor long passed, told me years ago, he (along with another dealer ) was shown one in a back area of the ana show floor in the mid 70's. He was not the kind of guy that bull s hits or makes up stories, but I always wondered if it was the real deal ?

But this was the 70's, so he was probably smokin' crackouts.

If you are interested, search for this coin on the search bar. There is a thread of a few years ago that contains a lot of information.

I guess I'll just have to start saving my pocket change. Ought to have it covered in a few years.
