How do you refund somebody (eBay) if you can't contact them?

A coin I shipped in June was returned to me with a yellow USPS label reading "NOT DELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED - UNABLE TO FORWARD". The sale is older than 90 days, so the sale record doesn't show up in my sold items on eBay and I don't have the buyer's eBay ID, just his name and a bad address. Any ideas about how to contact or refund the buyer?

paypal statements used to have that info and more, i'd check the monthly statement from ebay.

I would think if the buyer really wanted it, he would have contacted you by now. You could try ebay customer service by phone.

If you left feedback for your buyer you should be able to find their ID in your feedback left for others and send them a PM.

I found this on a google search for ebay sales older than 90 days. According to it you can access records thru an ebay request for 2 years. Hope this helps.

Had this happen years and years ago for a $200 coin. All I could figure was the guy moved or died or something. All attempts to undo the sale and refund the money failed. I ended up getting paid and being "stuck" with the coin and worried that eventually this would bite me in the butt. At least 10 years later, nothing ever happened.

Check your feedback. The guy that left you negative feedback because he didn't get the coin that he paid for is probably the guy you're trying to contact. Have you tried calling eBay to explain the situation? They may be able to help you locate this buyer.

You can see statements going back farther than 3 months.

Let me guess: ebay standard shipping? Every now and then one comes back with the yellow label. If so, I would just print a new label and ship it again. Every time it happened to me, it went through the second time.

No negative feedback. My fallback solution was to call eBay but that always ends up being an ordeal and I was hoping to not have to.

When I look at past sales, I can't see anything before the middle of July. Just curious- how do you see older ones?

I can't see the sales record to print another label.

That worked. I never look at the feedback I leave and didn't realize the item was listed. Thanks!

ebay has statements you can download or have sent to you.

i checked financial reports but that is just summaries for the month.

the transaction report has essentially the same data as the paypal reports i used to d/l.

i just checked and the ebay trans report has buyer id, real name, etc.

Only for a couple of months. They go in monthly folders and when I start a new one, I delete the oldest one.

This is the first time I've ever had anything I shipped come back four months later.

i can probably start to purge some of mine but i have all my ebay transactions (several accounts) going back many years because it all fits in one little ol xls file on one single little ol usb thumb drive.

This is what I was referring to. It's very useful for older transactions.

Go to Seller Hub|Reports
Select Financial Statement from the month(s) you want to search
Generate Full Report

The report will list each transaction. Find the transaction is question. The buyers eBay ID will be listed. Use it to find the account and send him a question.
