PCGS is taking names and kicking,,,,,,,,,,,,

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,592 ✭✭✭✭✭

submissions out the door.

Awhile back I got grades that had been at PCGS for just shy of 5 months,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I have a 2nd submission of the same type of coins and on the same submission level that are now in encapsulation and should pop grades any day now. This submission will be at 7 weeks when grades pop later this week.

From 5 months to 7 weeks is a HUGE improvement so I say KUDOS to PCGS!!!!!!

Keep up the good work,,,,,

GrandAm :)

I wonder if it’s a function of PCGS bringing on more graders, improving their process, etc or simply that there are not as many people submitting coins for grading

    Lovely coins and nice grades…
It surely remains to be seen how everyone else will fair…

I have a couple of major varieties that I am about to send in. Hopefully there is another lane for such. Some reconsiderations, which are keepers regardless.

    Congrats! B)
I just had my 8-Voucher order go thru in about 5-6 weeks (coins in hand, images "ready", but was not given a link to the TVs - and the standard link substituting the cert # doesnt work ... yet).
But 2 other orders received on the same day are still in Grading (a 1-coin Restoration, and a small Modern Value order).
Happy I got my sis' Xmas gift back tho. B)

My submission hasn't moved since June.

    JUNE.

Still stuck in grading for a 8 coin voucher with variety sub received July 18th.

I honestly think that there is no order to how PCGS grades. There are subs that aren’t done from five months ago and others go through in two months? It makes no sense whatsoever.

I wish they would not grade bullion coins they receive in monster boxes / tubes of 20 meant for investment bullion from dealers who send them into PCGS and NCG by the 1000s and then sell to unsuspecting collectors not aware they are worth small premium over spot. If they didn’t grade these they would have time for our real rare / collectible coins…
But what do I know - still waiting on a single submission (last voucher) since July 7 receipt. All the best!

Moderns are always faster; classic coins, economy and regular service are still backlogged.

Dude, my submission is Club Voucher. Same as Stawick....his are in hand done in 6 weeks. Mine are still in grading stage in 4 months🙄

Express is the only way to get decent return times these days. Anything less is at least 2 months in my experience in the last 3-4 months.

I may have gotten lucky. Plus my 8 were moderns.
But 4 months, yikes ... thats what my last order took (maybe 5?). Its random, even for the same person.

My submission from June 15th (mint sealed coins, submitted at Baltimore), finally received grades on September 20. I sent an email complaining about wrong designations (designations were "verified" at Baltimore). The submission was placed on hold.

On September 21st, I received an email from PCGS requesting specific information, and documentation to substantiate the claim, all of which was previously submitted to PCGS at Baltimore.

I submitted the requested information via email on September 21st. Hearing nothing more, I emailed PCGS on September 30th, asking about the status of my request.

On October 5th, I received the following via email:

    Hello xxxxxx,

Thank you for providing the additional information requested.

I have forwarded the request to pull the order in order to verify the information is correct before shipping the coins back and will follow up with you as soon as I receive an update from our grading department.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

    Best,

I have heard nothing more. I was originally hoping to have my submission returned in time to visit the Baltimore show on June 27th.

I have deleted my registry sets and converted most of my "collector's coin inventory to bullion.

I will keep my Dan Carr stuff, and some other (foreign) coins. I expect no future submissions to PCGS.

Unless you (and all the other rare/collectible coin people) are willing to make up through increased fees the income PCGS would be foregoing by not grading "those coins", I would be surprised to see any changes regarding the types of coins accepted for grading.

Edgar, I feel your pain and might have been jinxed by the Baltimore submissions as well - yet, I have heard nought from the hosts despite getting back my similar coin results from ATS over a month ago (which itself seemed a long time). I know that the grading services have a tough job, but after all we do pay rather handsomely for the service. Also, on challenging coins I have learned to submit appropriate documentation and provenance although that has not always been of obvious assistance. I do hope this has not become the permanent state of affairs.

Ok. I finally have had enough! I just sent the following email to our host:

Hello, I have been waiting on my submission #xxxxxx (Economy, 3 items) to be graded for just about 4 months.

Two questions. First, why is my order Economy instead of Regular service level? I thought Club vouchers were Regular service.

Second, why is this order taking so long?

My membership expires in xx days. I have changed my account from automatic renewal pending response from your team.

    Please advise.

    Will post their response.🙄

Well, I just noticed in looking at my submission that PCGS has 4 of my 8 coins labeled as 1 oz Gold. They are in fact 1/10 oz gold so I will have to call them in the morning,,,,,

Mine still in grading since 7/25, 60 work days in a week….that was the quoted time. However, I asked for attributes and figure based on past experience that will add 2-3 weeks more.

  • Che_GrapesChe_Grapes Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭✭✭

Mine also still in progress from receipt on 7/7 - it just changed to encapsulation a few days ago.
One coin! And was a NGC crossover — hopefully with a higher grade 😬

I have an economy special issues order logged in since 7/14. Still in grading stage.

Small wonder after reading this and so many other threads I have NEVER sent in a coin for grading.

  • ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have an economy rec'd on May 27 I'm still waiting for. A couple of orders rec'd in early and mid June, no movement.

  • WQuarterFreddieWQuarterFreddie Posts: 2,908 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well, I did not receive a response to my email and now my order has disappeared from my account!🙄😯

The last of my raw coins were submitted at the ANA in August. From now on I will only buy coins that have already been graded by PCGS. I will let my membership expire.

Update,,,,,,I got the mislabeling errors corrected and the grades just popped. I am happy overall.
The 1st 3 lines I was trying for upgrades to my set. 2 out of three lines upgraded and line one remained the same. These are all new coins,,,,,, not crackouts from previously graded coins.
Line #1 stayed the same as MS67
    Line #2 upgraded 3 points from a MS66 to MS69
    Line #3 upgraded 1 point from MS69 to MS70
Lines #4-5-6 are to add to the current year slot and bring my set up to date.
Lines #7 & 8 are Panda's I threw in to fill my 8 coin voucher.
2 calendar months for grading,,,,,,,, not too bad,,,,,,,,,

Well, say what you like but IMHO turn around times are improving. I went from 5 months to 2 months on my last 2 Foreign Coin Submissions.

I will take what I can get. :)

To me it just means that world gold submissions have dropped dramatically. My economy of US coins is 5 months tomorrow and no movement.

    bob :)
PS: don't tell me to call PCGS customer service. I did yesterday, 56 in queue ahead of me and today 68 in line....don't have that much time to waste on hold.

You don't have to wait on hold,,,,, the system will take your number and call you back when it is your turn. It actually works good.
