Morgan Collectors

This question is for you Morgan nuts image How long have you been at it? How long has it taken you to get to the point in your set that your currently at and how far from completion are you? I've looked at the sets registered and as there's many nice ones, I know I'm still a bit away from starting mine, even though I'm starting to find a strong interest in them.

I have always liked Morgans, but I only became aware of registry quality morgans since around April. Since then I've been building my collection and focusing on it. It's been fun and have come across some great looking coins! I still have all the Morgans I collected as a kid, but they are mostly circulated examples.

I'm guessing that I will be around the halfway point by year's end. I'm doing the Morgans w/varieties one and am about 14% there. I have a batch being graded now that will bump me up to around 20-24% (don't feel like doing the math image) I'll probably never finish the whole set as I just don't have that kind of money, but I want to have a pretty well complete one.

It has been fun, and the registry has definitely inspired me to spend more money. But the quality of my collection has really improved. And my two sets are helping me focus on diversity as well as completeness.

I started in March after finding Morgans in my deceased parents belongings. Nothing special there except an AU58/MS60 1894S but it was enough to get me hooked. I currently only have 10% completed in my PCGS registry (see link below) but I'll be migrating everything to NGC registry here soon since I have a number of MS66's that won't count in the PCGS registry.

It seems overwhelming when you have 90+ coins you have to collect but I will take some time and get it figured out slowly. I already know that I will be on the look-out for upgrades to. For instance, I have an MS64 in the registry now that needs upgrading to my minimum MS65 that I am trying to maintain. $$ will be the deciding factor as I work toward completion and I think I might have my wife convinced that these are an investment too.

Go for it. It is fun to collect and track your collection in the registry. My time horizon is long, since I only collect pls and dmpls, and those just don't cross my path as often as I'd like. But the non-pls/dmpls are readily available at affordable grades. Good luck.

I started focusing on Morgans back in the late 80's. Sold a portion of those in the early 90's because of an injury that forced me out of work for two years. Started back up in the late 90's and hear I am today. I also am collecting the varieties. It will take 105 Morgans to complete my set. Which by the way will be 100% toned. As of right now I have 68 toned Morgans by date and mint mark. The majarority of my coins are ms64,65,65 with some lower grades. Those lower grade coins are out of site money wise in higher grades or I just took a lower grade till a higher graded coin presents itself . Finding some of these coins toned is not easy. I believe it will take quite awhile to complete this collection but it is my goal to do so.
