    Seems like a strong result. I don't know the series much at all but was surprised at the hammer price.

    I too am unfamiliar with the series, however that not withstanding, I'm honestly a bit surprised that it garnered such a strong final hammer price.

    Census shows this example being a condition rarity at the very least.

    Same I can't understand the bidding either hope someone understands this series better and can share their input with us.

    I never been or tried any auction, this is the only date of the 2 Reales type struck at the Alamos mint, a mintage of 15,000, and maybe can be the condition/grade, no idea, one in VF25 in 2015 sold for $111, btw

    15,000 mintage. I'd say that's reason enough.

    15,000 mintage and a 1-year issue. If you want a 2R from 1872 i think this is your only choice, as there aren't any 2R's made at any of the other mints.

    I'd say that's reason enough.
