Eddie had more Offensive value, Brooks More on Defense, but it is sure hard to beat a guy you can plug into the SS position for 15 years and be very good at both and never miss a game.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Jim Palmer.
For all the good Ripken did I think "the streak" got to be a personal achievement and there were times he should have sat to help his team. His legacy wouldn't have been affected but "the streak" would have ended, so he continued.
no Chris Davis?
It's Ripken or Murray, and they're too close to call. With a gun to my head today, I'd take Murray but I might change my mind tomorrow.
I have felt the same for years.
Earl Weaver (GOAT Orioles manager)
I'm guessing this one - sired 3 nests of babies this year -
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
I say Murray
Their average seasons:
1st line is Murray; 2nd line is Ripken:

Murray was no doubt the better hitter, but I think the question was who was the better player.
