PCGS & NGC labels from cracked out coins - have you sent any back recently?

Has anyone sent in PCGS or NGC labels from cracked out coins recently?
Does either service still offer some sort of credit (it was 50 cents at some point)?
Does it matter if the labels are from details coins?

I gave pcgs about 35 labels back in late May. They still give the 50 cents each, got the check in July. I don’t think it matters about details labels, they still count.
I don’t know what NGC does. I’ve got a pile of them. I’ll ask them next time I see them at a show.
Good reminder.
I have a bunch built up. I have sent them back in the past, but never confirmed they removed the coins from database populations.
All of these will be sent back next week, and I can see if these get removed from pop reports someday since I will have this record.
Obviously, quite a few top-pop NGC National Commemoratives of the US Mint are not available anymore in these holders.
P.S. about 3/4 of all of these lost a full grade in conversion.

In 2010, there were 39 PCGS MS67FB 1931-D Mercury Dimes with NONE FINER. Now there are 64 in MS67FB with 10 FINER in 67+FB. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

What was the process?
Did you mail them to someone or handed them over at a show?
Did you use the same number as what you would use on submission forms as identification?
Email customer service and ask. I'd be curious to know.
Here’s a copy of my submission form. I gave them to pcgs at the May members show in NOLA. Put your personal information at the top of the form (like always), write the number of certs on a line, and write CERTS on the form itself. That’s it.
If you return labels to NGC:
"All NGC Collectors Society paid members and NGC Authorized Dealers are eligible to participate in this NGC certification label buyback program. An NGC grading credit of 50 cents will be issued for each NGC certification label returned to NGC. The credit will be posted to the member’s account.
NGC certification labels should be returned to NGC in an envelope marked “Attn: NGC Label Buyback Program.” The NGC Collectors Society member number or NGC Authorized Dealer account number must accompany the labels. For complete NGC certification label buyback program instructions, visit NGCcoin.com/labelbuyback.
Not an NGC Collectors Society member? Paid memberships start at just $39/year. Visit NGCcoin.com/MemberPortal/Login.aspx to join today."

Can you provide more details as to what lost full grade. This does not sound encouraging,
It is not unusual for most of my coins or medals to cross to PCGS one grade below whatever NGC or ANACS states. I have only received one back at a higher grade out of dozens of attempts. When one occasionally crosses at the same grade, I am quite happy.
There really are not explanations, but most top pop medals I purchased do not cross. I have had no success at all with reconsideration either. I think sometimes my medals are graded a little bit conservatively when the PCGS graders or QA have never seen an example before to compare it with?

I keep mine for reference when I break out and place coin in an album.
Just curious. Do the TPG's send labels back to each other from coins they have crossed?

No, they return the old labels to the submitter like in my photo above. It is up to the submitter to send them to the appropriate service if they choose to do so. It is why the population reports for fairly rare coins or medals are not correct in many cases and overstate remaining coin estimates.

Have you ever tried to sell a raw coin to a coin dealer? What does he say when you show them the label?

I have a couple of times I sold an LOC Morgan album with about 60 coins in it, with about half with the original slab labels. Definitely helped. I had an excel file with all the coins, my grades, and asking prices. A lot of the more expensive key dates had labels and they helped dealer agree with grades and close the deal very close to my asking price (little over 10% discount - I was very conservative with prices doing a lot of research on the auction prices). I dealt with B&M dealer before so they knew I could grade Morgans fairly accurately and the labels helped since they were going to slab the better coins for sale. Positive reinforcement.
Never have. I keep my crossed labels in a PCGS Blue box.

If you have ANACS labels to turn in mail them to this address below. Customer service said no need for any membership or forms, and their IT department will remove them from active status when received.

All of my labels posted above have now been mailed back. I think it is important to get the population reports corrected at least for low population items. I also wanted to be sure my old label numbers did not get copied or used inappropriately.

I always send them back and would do so regardless of any financial incentive to do so. I think we all share the responsibility to each other of doing what we can to help keep the pop reports as close as possible.
Personally I take a picture of the coin in the holder before resubmitting or cracking out and keep it for my records. For the successful re-considerations, regrades, crossovers and crack-outs I take a color scan of the label before sending it back. Overkill? Yes. But I like having a record of the coin in the holder and the label out of the holder.
The moral to the story here is that population reports at almost every grade level for most coins aren't accurate. Crack outs and keeping labels for years on end does the hobby no good. They should all be returned to assist in honest counts.
Agree with the pops being completely out of whack, & wish they were close to accurate, but I want to keep the labels when I crack them. I do not crack & resubmit until I am happy with cross-over or upgrade. I keep the labels for reference.
With today's technology, if the 3 main TPGs had a link to send photos so they can adjust, I'd be happy to comply, must have 50+ labels. But send in, sorry, no.

Great Idea - Three main TPGs should have a link to send photos of coin labels cracked out for new grading.
I'm confused:
1. You keep the labels after you crack out a coin and put it in your album - don't you run the risk of fingerprints or hairline scratches when you put them in an album?
2. "I do not crack & resubmit until I am happy with cross-over or upgrade." How do you know before cracking and submitting?
1 - I'm careful placing coins in albums. Its the sliding in and out of the plastic sleeves that album owners need to avoid.
2 - Agree, this is slightly consfusing and did not convey what I wanted to express. I was referencing the fact that although these TPC slabs no longer exist, I have not added to the pop #s playing the game of cracking and resubmitting. I've heard of some collectors submitting the same coin multiple times. Now that really ups the pops and those folks should always submit the old labels. Until I dispose of my collection, and until the new owner decides to have graded. the pops are technically still accurate.
Wow, not sure what happened to the font size, Didn't change anything, Not screaming at anyone. lol.
So you don't use the plastic sleeves?
Based on these comments it seems to support the discussions I have read by some authorities that the TPG population reports should be multiplied by about 0.70. Does that seem appropriate?
I use the slides that come with the Dansco and LOC albums, but have to be careful, esp if dust or other residue settles on the plastic. Try to avoid removing coin once in album, but sometimes like to hold close with a loupe to study in detail.
Hope this is in normal size font since I am not doing anything different.
