I've been looking at these for a while... for coin photography does it make a difference? Thanks in advance...

it will mostly depend on what MM your lens is but i'd be quite surprised if 23" wouldn't get it done but if the price is near the same, i'd go with the taller one just to leave room for expansion in the future.
you could get something to measure the height when you hold your camera in your hand, get the coin in focus close enough to get 1:1 as close as possible (little to no edge between the coin edge and the edge of the frame. a lot less to crop that way. then that will give you a good estimate of what your needs are. perhaps do some with slabs, magazines etc just for argument sake.

Check craigslist.org - often there are good used ones on there; I managed to get a Kaiser from craigslist a few years ago.
just bumping as a reminder to those that don't know, while there are some that get away with much shorter working distances, USUALLY, the height between the camera and coin can be 18' or more.

Thanks for the bump... the copy stand and lighting is the last thing I need to complete my photographic setup. There's nothing in my local Craigslist offerings, so I'm perusing local camera shops for used equipment...

if you find someone with cubic-rate shipping and the weight will be under 20 pounds and no one side longer than 18" AND each of you don't live 1500-2000 miles apart, usps priority should be like $10-15 if you want to do a WTB on the BST or something.
the item can be longer than 18" as on the diagonal of the middle of the box, is longer than 18" but it can't be really thick but for a copy stand base board it can be whatever the max length of the inside middle of an 18x18 square. maybe up to 20"? i don't know the calculation off the top of my head but it is pretty simple for sure.

I was lucky a few years ago and found my Kaiser RS1 for $100 after months of checking on craiglist.
Keep an eye out for old photography enlargers. I was able to buy one and remove the enlarger head relatively cheaply.

I went with a 36 inch but I'm using a Sigma 150 mm macro lens. With large coins, I still have over 24 inches between the coin and the lens. Lots of room to play with lighting.
I'd go for the greater height as you may photograph something for which it will come in handy.
