I'm sending in some coins ATS, for a variety of reasons, including turnaround times. I want photographs of my own, a service that our host does quite well. ATS, what type of photo should I get to be able to download and use? It looks like my cost conscious choice is between internet and photo vision. I don't need a PHOTO PROOF, whatever that is.

There are some quality image takers here at the forum. But, if you want to go ATS, that is your porrogative.

Thank you. I'm going with photovision. And I agree and I've used several of them. In fact, I've really never been disappointed with any of them. But this is a small group and it's just easier to pay the $8/coin. Thanks again.

This is an example of what the NGC photovision looks like.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
They take nice pics that look just like the coin in hand in my experience.

Photovision shots are worse quality than TV's, which reflects the fact that NGC doesn't seem to place the right level of priority and investment into upping their photography expertise and equipment.

You know I can attest to that. To give them some credit, they've been better lately.

I was very unhappy with my experience with photovision. I got it on the only 2 coins I've submitted and it made them look horrible, much different than how they looked in hand.
I auctioned off one on ebay and during the auction I got a message asking me about the photos, as the photovision photos look entirely different than the other photos I provided. I explained my opinion, and the guy bid and ended up winning. After receiving the coin he even messaged me to thank me, and also express his own shock at how poor of a job Photovision did of representing the coin.
Do you have your photos and the photovision photos of your two coins to share with us, so that we might compare them to reserve judgement until we view actual comparisons?
Thank you,
Jim

@jesbroken Sure. The non PV one I had to crop and try to increase the size on, so it could be better. But the PV pics make it look like it has zero luster and a lot of brown. Myself, a friend and the person who bought the coin from me were all in agreement that the obverse just does not have that brown look in hand, or even under a 10x loupe. There's the very common chatter in the right field, sure. But it's a good looking coin.
I'll admit most of the PV pics I've seen lately, including the ones in this thread look much better.
Edit: Oh here is the PV reverse shot, which is just ok. But these pics almost look a little bit cartoonish to me.
I would not have bought the PV coin from that photo. I agree in this instance with you.

I agree, they appear to be improving, but Trueview and probably a dozen photogs or more on this forum are still better.
it is their equipment or lack of it. and or experience of the photographer.
