***1922 Peace dollar GTG... Grade Revealed***

I won this common date 1922 Peace dollar in last night's GC auction... I quite like the gunmetal toning on both obverse & reverse. I needed this date for my Peace dollar set, but didn't want a common date in a common grade (these high mintage dates can look uninspiring), so let that be a hint for you as you GTG... and as always, thanks for looking...
grade revealed
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

That's an attractive coin. I can't quite get a feel for the lustre (and whether it's inhibited in some amount by the toning, or if it is what it is, toning notwithstanding). The surfaces look at least a clean 65, but lustre could take it either way. So I'd say 65, but I don't think I'd have a problem if it were in a 66 holder, and I could potentially understand (though doubt) it being in a 64 holder.

Lacks luster but clean surfaces; MS64

I 100% agree.
This would be one of the nicest MS64s around or a weak MS66 as the luster does appear muted.

Hard to tell from photo, Liberty looks clean and no facial scratches. Weak strike in the lettering especially on the reverse.

Glad I'm not a Peace Dollar grader.

I'm going with MS66. I feel its more like a 64+ or 65, but for some reason I have seen some very generous grading on Peace dollars recently. Great coin!
The surfaces look very clean but the "gunmetal" toning very much mutes the details and I personally don't like that look.
The reverse looks like it has some kind of "growth" going on with it.
It very much has a ms66 surface but I would consider the eye appeal a negative distraction if the luster is not all there.
No way that's going below 65 IMO

I am in the 64 camp on this one, based on this scan.
Congrats.
I think the "muted" luster is due to the way PCGS imaged this coin. It's looks very close to an axial lighting to enhance the gunmetal gray toning. That kind of lighting kills the luster without bringing in other lights. I bet she is pretty is fairly flashy in hand. I would guess MS-66.

I am really, really bad at Peace Dollars in hand... much less from images.
The reverse strike weak
The muted color with some slight change in color on the high points?
I want to say AU58 because of the discoloration on the high points in wing.

I would say 65 but would not have an issue if it was in a 66 holder.
My guess is the luster in hidden under the toning in the photo but would be there in hand.
Solely from the image this is why I like to remind collectors that it really is the coin that matters. Great look... definitely muted lustre which is not helpful in terms of obtaining the optimum grade. But this coin, which is quite common, has an appeal that really is at a level that is simply more compelling that what plastic and stickers provide or can represent... well done.
My grade is 65 and I have this unfortunate vibe that the assigned grade is not at that level.

I'll say 64 too... the luster has me bugged..

Thank you all for the guesses. A few people were very close with their grading. The GC images don't do the coin justice but I'm sure the TrueView image accents the color while muting the luster, as some have mentioned.
The grade is revealed below and in the first post of this thread...
