Hello,

I'm not a collector of currency, but I recently purchased a 1781 Continental Loan Office Second Bill of Exchange, signed by Francis Hopkinson and Nicholas Gilman. Does the fact that it's a second bill, vs third or fourth, impact it's value in any meaningful way, or is the biggest % of its value tied to the signatures of the two Founding Fathers? Also, should I get it graded by PCGS or PMG, or is that not going to add any meaningful value to it?

  • The value is in the signatures. All four bills of exchange would have been signed at the same time. Whether it is the first, second, third or fourth should not affect the value.

    Cool...thanks for the insight.
