Home Buy, Sell, & Trade - U.S. Coins

The Forum name is Buy, Sell & Trade

The Forum is named Buy, Sell & Trade, yet there are considerable posts in the forum that appear to be simply advertising. If someone posts a link to an item that is listed on another platform but the poster is receptive to doing a deal directly through this forum that would seem to appropriate. However, a posting to advertise coins for sale that are only available somewhere else and can not be purchased through this forum doesn't seem fitting to me. Thoughts?

I see nothing wrong with it simply because pcgs does not care and does not get any kickback from sales here, there, or anywhere.
As long as the poster selling has the coin in their possession and is not scamming then advertise away.

Oh man! You have less than 100 posts😯 so watch out for the haters😉.

Personally I agree with you but there will be others that will defend their right to post Ebay and auction house links.😎

I am going to have fun watching this thread go off the rails.🤣😂

If it is an eBay listing and the seller is willing to negotiate a sale with a forum member recognizing they will not have to pay eBay and payment processing fees, I am fine with it. If the seller does not have the ability to do a deal because the coin is not in their possession because it is with Heritage or Great Collections or some other platform then I personally think it is simply advertising and inappropriate.

I can't argue with the post count, but venture to say that my successfully completed transactions to posts is pretty high. I do include my eBay Store link in my signature line and I'm happy to discuss any listing with any forum member any time.

The ones I laugh at are when they directed you to a certain site and then warn you that you are clicking on the site at your own risk. :D:s;) Talk about a possible ride on the wild side.

It seems to me that there used to be more folks posting items that they had for sale via eBay and they would (or be asked to) put eBay in the title. I have no problem with members posting a link to their eBay listings as long as they mention it. Often they would sell it on the boards a bit cheaper due to the absence of fees.

I agree with this. Ebay should be listed in the title of the BST post. If I see ebay, I will not even bother to look.

Well, you just explained why so many people don't do it.

So the question I have is if you are against using this site to advertise, why do you advertise with all the successful transactions and the ebay link in your sig line?

I list successful transactions so that people that I have not done business with can see those that I have. I probably buy 10 to 1 over selling on the site.

I include my store address to make it easy for anyone that would like to see the gold coins I have available.

At one time, using the BST just for advertising a coin only available on another venue was not allowed. We should go back to enforcing this unwritten rule.

This is a software feature that was added into the forum maybe a year or two ago. All re-directs to external websites will trigger the warning message.

    Also, to address the OP...

I personally don't think the BST it too overcrowded to allow the "advertising" on a different site... and wouldn't want to limit people to NOT listing a path to their coins.

That being said, I appreciate the courtesy, say in the case of an EBAY BIN, the option to sell it here at a discount, but In the case of Links to Auction houses I think that should be in the title - FS@(auction house)

I DO feel like if you link to an external auction house ( for sale there only ) you should only bump the thread like once a week, and not daily...

Creating 5 different threads and bumping them all in one day like surfinHI mentioned is the unwritten rule yes, but its just plain not courteous to take extra slots that others could use.

All in my opinion of course

I post link to my eBay listings. In the past I usually would write that can buy off of ebay but I didn’t really get responses so I stopped writing it. I love off ebay sales I save on the fees

I have no problems with folks advertising coins that are on sale on eBay, GC, or HA as long as it’s clearly mentioned in the title. It’s your prerogative not to look at said coins on the other sites. If a poster is selling a coin on eBay I think we can logically conclude that they are willing to sell the coin off eBay.

So, again, you have no problem with advertising yourself just with other members, correct?

Understand I have no issue with your sig line just as I have no issue with members posting ebay and other auction site items. I just find it very ironic that you do since you are advertising yourself.

    Thoughts:
The BST is working just fine as it is. If someone wants to show a coin they have for sale at heritage, etc. so be it. It is for sale. It’s not like the BST is flooded with new posts.

It is not affecting PCGS’ bottom line nor breaking any rules.

This post is more off topic in the BST than a link to coins being sold on eBay.

    My 2c, YMMV.
