Just a thought- can adding PCGS coins to Registry sets somehow help the battle against counterfeits?

Does adding a coin to a registry set, along with an image if there isn’t already a trueview somehow give it a permanent pedigree that can be used to prove it isn’t counterfeit and make the coin have greater liquidity for future sales? If not, is there a way to make it so? I’m thinking, at the very least, it would help if it’s in a registry set and a counterfeit slab with the same cert number gets checked by doing a cert verification and it will say it’s part of a registry set and has a link to the registry set if it’s a public set (which it already does). Something like that…

I think it can only become "permanent" if you never sell it or your set becomes an all-time set. Otherwise, doesn't the coin listing disappear after the coin is sold?

That being said, adding additional photos is nice, especially if it will appear on Cert Verification.

I like how Heritage and Stack's auctions are listed on Cert Verification. Some eBay listings were shown in the past, but I haven't seen much of this recently.

What would stop you or anyone else from putting the counterfeit coin in your registry. As long a lot isn't in someone else's already, no one will verify it.

I’m thinking something along the lines of a pedigree trail that shows up by cert number somehow, at least to PCGS, where they can look at the coins history along with images every time a coin gets added to the Registry inventory. Over time it would get more accurate, especially if all of the sudden multiple coins with the same cert number start showing up. That sort of thing, maybe, somehow. For new coins it can get stored in the chip, and for old coins in PCGS database. Maybe

Problem is that most coins Prussia aren't in the registry at all. I've handled thousands of slabs and never registered even one. I have over 1000 slabs right now and no one knows I have them.

Yes, it would make people want to add their coins to the registry sets, a “value added” security feature available only to people who register their coins with PCGS. People would start adding coins to Registry inventory just for the added security and then end up wanting to fill the holes in their sets once they see how easy and organized it is. Some people might even start sending in their old slabs for Trueviews for older holders they don’t want to crack out. That sort of thing, maybe, somehow
