An interesting find in change...

So, yesterday I went to my post office (in northeastern Illinois) to mail an envelope and buy some stamps (now 60c for a first class stamp!); total cost $12.92. Paid with a $20 bill and got the change back, only to find that one of the pennies was a Canadian cent. Now, that happens from time to time (even this far away from Canada), but what was really surprising was that it was a 1967 Centennial cent, in VF-XF condition.

Not the most important development in what proved to be a very "interesting" day, but I thought you might find it entertaining nonetheless.

I received a 1964 Canadian cent in change yesterday at the local Meijer store. Here in the Detroit area Canadian coinage is not wanted even though Canada is only across the Detroit River. I never try to spend any Canadian I receive nor do I put it into rolls of US coins. The people at my bank know my rolls are always correct count and no Canadian. They don't bother checking them with a magnet as they do for other customers.

    All glory is fleeting.
