I don't like their 5ish% foreign exchange fee. I bought 2 items from European sellers this week on MA-Shops, taking advantage of the strong dollar at the moment. That fee is much higher than any of my credit cards.
Wouldn't the sellers accept a bank wire transfer?
That would cost me just as much, if not more.
And Paypal's fee is a problem... because?
It's out of line with what competitive credit cards charge.
Credit cards in general or credit cards in overseas transactions. They also charge more.
My quick internet search says that Visa and MC charge 1 to 3% overseas transaction charges in addition to the normal fee. That would be similar to PayPal, wouldn't it?

I just ran into this particular issue trying to send a payment via friends and family to a fellow forum member and this option wasn’t available for the first time ever for me. The only option was goods and services.

I have yet to check in with my recipient, but I do remember ebay sending out lots of emails about a year ago "encouraging" their members to "upgrade" to a business account. They were promising a butt load of additional features, benefits of "club membership", etc. I do vaguely remember the fine print about the lack of ability to use F&F but didn't realize it would hamstring others from using that as well.
Like you, this week's transaction was the first time I've run into that. As a buyer, that extra 3% to get to the agreed upon price just plain sucks. It's not always the seller that pays those fees. Even if the seller "absorbs" them, they are factored into the equation.
Just like taxes, the buyer ALWAYS pays in the end. I'll bet both of our sellers "upgraded" their account to business and forgot about it. My understanding is that once you go "business" you can never go back.
I stand by my original evaluation. They suck-ca-ca-ca . . .

I'm glad you choose to work for free. Most of us like to get paid. PayPal provides a service. They are entitled to get paid. If you don't want to pay for the service, simply don't use the service. Saying they suck is like getting a hair cut and then getting the barber they such for charging you.

Then use a competitive credit card.
I would if it were an option, but if you can only check out and use a credit card with PayPal, it's not.
You can set it up through your bank’s app or website. Probably need an iPhone/smartphone to utilize the app within your banks app. App=application (program)

Personally, I want the protection for anyone other than my mother. Even a "trusted forum member" can choose their personal interest over yours.
PayPal is providing a service at a certain fee. If they didn't charge a fee, they wouldn't be able to stay in business. I think 3% is a reasonable price to pay for buyer protection, so I willingly pay the fee. If the fee was 15%, I would find an alternative.
