Chaim Bloom not a clubhouse fav with trading Vazquez for 2 minor league pitchers

MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭✭✭

Odd, I thought reading the attached article, that Bloom readily acknowledges the pain the players will feel with the trade of Vazquez. Getting 2 minor league pitchers for a 15-year veteran doesn't make sense to me, but I ain't Bloom. As you read the article, you get a sense that Bloom has licked the red off of a lot of candy in the clubhouse. Meanwhile, the Manager, one Alex Cora, simply states "we've got to play better"...geez Alex, what an ephipany-like observation. In my book, you're not anywhere near the manager you think you are.

How uncomfortable it'll be tonight as the Red Sox play the Astros...with Vazquez in the other dugout. Yup, its a business.

    Sox got Hosmer

Adios Vazquez, get 2 minor league pitchers. IMO, negative result. How does that compute??

    Update 5:15 p.m. August 2nd

When the Red Sox acquired Eric Hosmer from the Padres, they were obviously set to absorb a fair bit of long-term salary. In exchange for providing that relief to San Diego, the Red Sox are receiving a pair of prospects along with Hosmer.

I guess it works for Bloomy, but not for me. The Yankees took home the best of all the action.

Thank You Al, all is well outside of the hot humid weather. But don’t worry I will be complaining of the cold soon enough 😂

Hope you and the family are doing well 🍻

Paul...all good here, suffering through the awful heat and humidity, like you. It really gets cranking here in July/August. Some heat indexes have topped 105++. Getting ready for our 10 day Greece trip on Sept 4th, hopefully no flight craziness. It's direct Atlanta-Rome, and back home Barcelona-Atlanta. Looking forward to it. B)

I think Bloom did a good job yesterday. Getting $44 million back from the Hosmer trade to get his 3 remaining years made his salary very reasonable and giving up little to get him in one prospect. Vazquez is only a loan to the Astros and can sign with any team, including the Red Sox , when the season is over . They picked up some decent prospects in those trades also. I am not saying they are going to win the World Series but at least they should be a little more fun to watch for the rest of this year, Baseball is going to get very expensive for owners from now on.

Just to add to my thoughts getting rid of Franchy Cordero and Diekman is a big plus for them.

Not sure I'd go along with "should be a little more fun to watch the rest of this year". They're in dead last place, even behind the Orioles, 17 games back and 2 out in the Wildcard. They still have 9 games with the Yankees, and a pile left with Toronto and the Rays. With the way they've been playing, I just don't see any progress, just slowly slipping out of Wildcard chances. Hosmer was a good add, but that's about it. Check out local Boston writer's comments, they don't sound too thrilled to me. A season of hope kinda went out the window last month, so much talent, but so little production, no spark. As for Bloom's comments about how he KNEW the Vazquez trade would hurt and upset several players, he should realize there's this little thing called "Esprit de Corps", which appears to be either lacking in the Red Sox clubhouse, or just decimated.

I'm not so sure Bloom did a good job with his "choices", I think the Yankees got the lion's share of trades.

I have no idea what the Red Sox are trying to accomplish by adding Tommy Pham, Reese McGuire, and Eric Hosmer and subtracting Jake Diekman, Christian Vazquez, and Jay Groome. None of the "prospects" acquired are in the team's top 27 according to mlb.com.

If the Sox are bailing on this season it seems they would have tried to trade Martinez and Eovaldi, and maybe Bogaerts, and not added Hosmer or Pham. Otherwise they got worse in the bullpen, far worse beyond the plate, and admittedly better at First.

I'm just not sure what the goal is with these transactions. It seems like a very unfinished trade deadline.

Of course being a Royals' fan I really appreciate what Hosmer did while he was with KC,
but he's really been underperforming. He has 20 home runs in his last 850 at bats.
That's not much power for a 6' 5", 230 lb. first baseman. I always thought Hosmer should
be hitting more at a Freddie Freeman level, but I did come to the realization that wasn't going
to happen when he was in KC so I wasn't that disappointed when he left for SD.
Looks like the Padres were happy to unload him and try somebody else at first base.

Now Chris Sale breaks his wrist riding his bicycle.
He must have been taking riding lessons from Pres Biden.
He has spent more time on the IL than playing baseball.
Good thing FOR HIM he has a long contract so he can get more of the Red Box's money.
Just think we could have paid Devers what he wants to keep him.

JBJ signed with the Blue Jays.
He will beat them up when he comes to Fenway this month.
    Another colossal error by Blume.
I now concede that at least Blume and maybe the rest of the coaching staff has to go!
Even I have stopped watching the Red Sox this year!

Well, Steve, not too rub salt, but you'll recall my "irrational exuberance" comment some time ago. I don't think Bloom was the right guy for the job, but that's on John Henry and his managerial staff. IMO, Bloom did NADA at the trade deadline to shore up the Red Sox team. He talks all the talk, but can't, or won't walk the walk. Like those before him, he makes great money for the position he holds, sits in a suite area at every game, bangs on a few keys and tries to look important, much like the always nattily attired Dave Dumbrowski...similar job, same results.

The Red Sox IMO, need to dump Cora. He looks to me like a buddy-buddy type and probably struggles with discipline issues. Not that he has to be heavy handed, but I've read and watched enough of his post game interviews and he covers up problems and performance like a foot of snow over mud. The team is simply mailing it in at this point, with just 50 or so games left, they're already making Fall vacation plans and dreaming of spending their money on toys.

Well, don't give up yet, the Yankees are coming Friday night...worth a peek. Should have been at least a competitive year, now that they are pretty much a lock for last place in the AL East, and undoubtedly out of even a wildcard slot, it is indeed time for "wait till next year" Turn out the lights, the party's ovah.

Even Pedro is complaining about Red Sox management.
Its time for Mr Henry to put his billions to work and address the problem.
Fire all the management and roll up his sleeves.
