Washington Commanders embarrassed by fan turnout at training camp

This is just pitiful.

The Washington Commanders Had An Embarrassing Fan Turnout At Training Camp Practice

I think it’s safe to say that the Washington Commanders fan base is not thrilled about the upcoming season.

Around this time every year, fan bases are gearing up to watch their favorite teams at training camp, but one team found themselves all alone when they took the field.

Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post shared some photos from the Commanders’ second practice of training camp and fans did not come out at all.

“This is embarrassing,” one person tweeted. “The team has done practically nothing to get fans behind them since their big reveal around town.”

“Disgraced franchise,” another fan wrote.

I think some of it has to do with the new team name, they really dropped the ball on that one. I would have picked the Washington Red Wolves over the Commanders, they had good concepts for the Red Wolves name.

    Maybe their fans have jobs?

And you're starting quarterback shows up at his first press conference looking like Ronald McDonald.

I mean, the Panthers suck and even we get more fans than that at training camp.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think it's a combination of the fans not liking the new team name and having Carson Wentz as their quarterback. I don't blame them, the new team is trash, and I know a lot of fans were mad when Washington signed Wentz.

Carson Wentz has all the tools you would look for in an NFL QB. Just look at his stats before his knee injury. He was the odds on favorite to win the MVP award.
Something in his mind changed. Joe Burrow had a much worse injury to his knee and came back to lead his team to the super bowl.
If he plays to his potential they will make the playoffs. Didn’t they make it last year with Taylor Heinicke?
You tell me who has the most upside? Vegas has them at 7.5 wins and I see a possibility of them winning 9 games, more if he gets his stuff together.

Even his stats last year weren’t terrible, actually they were good. He just couldn’t get it done when it mattered.

Year Team YDS TD INT Rating
    2021 IND 3,563 27 7 94.6
    2020 PHI. 2,621 16. 15. 72.8
    2019 PHI. 4,039. 27. 7. 93.1
    2018 PHI. 3,074. 21. 7. 102.2
    2017 PHI. 3,296. 33. 7. 101.9
    2016 PHI. 3,782. 16. 14. 79.3
    Career. 20,374. 140. 57. 90.1

Didn’t take long for the statue to outlast both QB and coach. He books, hype and bullsh&t didn’t help the organization. I’ve worked at the same company 26 years and I told them I didn’t need a statue in my honor. That’s just the kinda guy I am.

Well, I really don't know why people didn't go to the training camp workout..... But, I do know why I personally don't go to the public invited Rams training workouts.....They are boring, no football action involved, and the weather is TOO DAMN HOT!.....Those workouts where the public is invited aren't really workouts......they are Public Relations events......Anyway, the the weather looked good.....humidity???.... But it's not a legit training session, practice, workout etc., .. it' a PR Event..Whatever....

I'm a glass half full type of guy so just think of all the autographs that you're likely get being one of the only fans there. You could bring tons of football cards to sign one day, maybe do a team signed football the next then try getting some team jerseys signed another day. B)

Dragon Master,.....He would remind you of Elmer Fudd. But that's because you've got a twisted mind.....take it from somebody who suffers from the same problem.......At least that's what they tell me!.....Seek help! It's out there but first you have to admit you have a problem..... Think about the children!....Please!..... You have to STOP!! 😂

Slightly OT.. I've seen some comments by people who say that NFL teams should go back to having their camps at colleges. I know that NBA teams regularly used to do this too. My first college (for almost three years. I attended three schools, no degrees, long story lol) was Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. The Redskins had camp there. It would be over by the time I showed up every August, but talking to people in the community it was important to them and I know there was a good turnout from locals. It was not an amazing setup, but there was a field, a good weight room, etc. One of the reasons that the Cowboys are never great is their insistence on training in multiple locations (and states) every pre-season. It is considered a beating on the players and a real travelling circus, done only to maximize the brand.

You could really clean up, that's for sure. I would make a bee line for Chase Young, he was one of my favorites at Ohio State.

I'll bet you having to see that statue every day really screwed Carson Wentz up, having to hear all of the fans heaping praise on Nick Foles, it's like he was Rocky Balboa and Doug Pederson was Mickey.

I've been saying here the whole time. The statue did him in.

Think about it. Wentz had all the tools. Literally. Top pick. Rich over night. Having a season where they are talking about him as MVP. The Eagles are desperate for a SB title. Their fans (many of whom I befriended at the school in PA I mentioned) are very loyal. He gets hurt. His backup, his backup, I repeat his backup wins the SB. Over Brady. In the SB where Brady has a better offensive game than any. Brady misses a trick play catch. Foles executed a similar play, showing up Brady. They win. The team builds him a statue. He can't go anywhere forever in Philadelphia area without people praising him. They call him big 🤐 Nick. He eats for free for the rest of his life. Wentz is psychologically ruined and physically not the same. His "game" is compromised.

I know you don't like him DD, but I do. But to QB my team? No.

You nailed it, that whole situation ruined Wentz, and he's never recovered from it. As it happens, Wentz has to play the Eagles twice this upcoming season, I'm looking forward to seeing that!

Heck, when Foles was backing Wentz up in Philly, Wentz would root against the Eagles, root against his own team, out of spite for Foles for winning that Super Bowl.

And Carson Wentz was always watching Nick Foles through the blinds, and swore that one day he would have his revenge.

  • doubledragondoubledragon Posts: 23,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Heck, Carson Wentz even went as far as to vandalize the statue of Nick Foles, they couldn't prove it was Wentz behind the mischief, but we have our suspicions. Yes, the statue has since been cleaned and returned to it's original condition.

Well with a name like the "Washington Commanders" everybod thought it was a team from the XFL - and nobody wants to even see those minor league games let alone watch them practice.
