This is an important newp (new purchase) for me.

Take note of the date on this coin (1495). Particularly the curious medieval "4" numeral in the date, which is shaped like a little curlicue and resembles a cancer awareness ribbon.

Dates (actual numerical dates) are rare on coins before 1500, as I'm sure many of you know.

The obverse features John the Baptist holding a lamb.

Rob - congrats! I really like it. I have yet to add one of the goldgulden with a pre-1500 date. Nice bold strike on this piece also.

M'Lord - I like that coin a lot. I like the design of John the Baptist, the early date with funky numerals, and it looks like a great strike as well for the issue.

Cool date. I went to St. John the Baptist Elementary School.
