... now is insured $100 by default.

When did this happen? Does this change anyone's calculus on whether to add extra insurance?

A thousand pardons if this has already been discussed.

When possible I try to avoid having INSURED or SIGNATURE REQUIRED appear on my shipping labels. I'll opt for self-insured as often as possible. Otherwise I go with registered.

Shipped eight medium flat rate boxes Friday, each with $300-$450 value. No additional insurance and no sig required.

BUT do you choose the option to hide the shipping cost on the label?

I envision the thoughtful mail thief: "Hmm... they hid the shipping cost; no reason to do that unless there is added insurance they don't want me to know about. Since I am not a great fool, I can clearly steal from the package in front of me"...

I don't know about eBay items, but neither click 'n ship nor pirate ship formerly www.paypal.com/shipnow show insured or postage amount on the label.

Criminals are known for their discerning ways. They think “ No insured on the box, guess I’ll pass.” Instead of just grabbing everything.
