I don't know how many of you get cought up in all this Registry competition and hipe as I did, It seems to me to take a little fun out of collecting. Don't get me wrong, I love my Franklin set but I think I got to far away from other types of coins and too concerned with graded stuff.
Last week my wife ,who is a big Civil War buff suggested I put together a Civil War set. The great thing about this set is , we want the set to be circulated coins used during the period 1861-1865.
I guess the point of this post is , You can have the best of both worlds, your Registry and other types of collecting. There are some really neat and interesting coins out there to collect and I think maybe I'll try a Registry Quality Civil War set.
As I said I love my Registry set and mean no offence to anyone, just wanted opinions.

I've taken an interest in SMS coins, and built a 1965-1967 15-Coin set. Of course I hope they will make it a registry set one day.
I was tempted by a scan of an Alaskan pinch from the coin forum. That sounds like a fun coin to me.
It sure is easy to side track myself. I was interested in California fractional gold coins, a side track in itself, and now learn there are Alaska Pinchs! Those gold rushes are interesting. One day I will head for the hills and pan for gold
That's an interesting site. I've collected for a looong time, and have never seen those Alaskan tokens before. Thanks for sharing.
If you want to pan for gold, there are places here in Colorado where you can do it. I've tried it in the headwaters of the Platte River, and actually found a few flecks of gold. You won't get rich doing it, but it's fun to do for a few minutes.
