Something I have never noticed on ebay before in this quantity.

Over the years, I have probably sent 50 or so messages to sellers on ebay that have mislisted a coin as to date, mintmark, series or some such error, just as an FYI and always taken as such. Today, I ran into a couple of different sellers listing a 1908 Barber Quarter yet the photo was of a Denver or New Orleans mint. I sent an FYI to both, then found another and another and another, all 1908 listings with D or O or S(only 1) mintmarks. Suddenly, I counted 20 and stopped. These were many different sellers, although a few were the same. Anyone else notice this happening this frequently? BTW, these were not beginners but sellers with 4k to 19k feedback, so what is up with this?

Volume probably contributes to sloppiness. The few times I have notified a seller, they have fixed the error, which is to their benefit to do so. Most of the time, I just ignore it.

They may be taking a like item “sell similar” and not updating their listing properly.

Here's an interesting note. I sent a seller an FYI regarding his photo of a 1908 D Barber Quarter and listing the auction as for a 1908 Barber Quarter. And was replied with, "I see from looking at the picture how you might think that. But coin in hand, what you are seeing, is not a D. Thank you though for wanting to help me. It's nice, and rare, and refreshing. Thanks."
What do you think about this reverse, D or no D?

Edited to add: Not talking about the pareidolia D below the real D.

I can see where you might think that, but seller is probably correct. Buy it and prove us wrong. Looking at CoinFacts for size and placement show bigger and further down than what you are seeing. I can not even count the number of times I have seen a rare variety that was just toning or damage.

    What I've noticed is sellers selling graded coins and listing a 55 as a 58 or a 40 as a 45, etc.
