Question about shipping costs on golf clubs

I am getting ready to list a set of 8 golf irons on eBay, and I am concerned about how much to charge for shipping plus $400 for insurance. I checked with the local p.o., and I was told that it would be $64.05 to ship priority and $49.95 for ground. Other sellers of similar items on eBay are charging anywhere from $15.50 to $19.95 to $30.00 to ship similar items. What am I missing here? What is the best way for me to ship these clubs. Any suggestions are welcomed, and I hope I am in the correct category.

Measure the box that you are going to use. Weigh the box with the clubs. Then get prices for UPS ground and FedEx ground. Some sellers eat part of the shipping costs to make the sale. Hard to sell stuff when you are charging $50 plus for shipping.
Auction or fixed price?
Fixed price of probably $25. Eight golf irons.

I was going to say that if fixed price, better to add the shipping to the base cost, but if the base cost is only $25, it might be best to sell them locally.
Typo. Fixed shipping price of $425, not $25.

We’ve disagreed on topics in the past but this is spot on and exactly what I would recommend. Well done.

For stuff that USPS will ship, it's usually better to use USPS. If it's too big for USPS, UPS is the next best option. I have heard that FedEx will ship nearly anything you can stick a label to. Like, if you want to ship a car bumber, FedEx. I've never tested this though. I have shipped very large heavy stuff with USPS and UPS. Golf clubs aren't tough to ship.
That is true, when I would buy or ship used tires, you just tape a pair together and slap a FedEx ground label on it.. no problem!
