Is there such a thing that is graded 89?
This is for PCGS 35th Anniversary copper medal graded 89. I'm confused. I can't seem to find where the NFC anti-counterfeiting technology is located either.

It isn't technically graded but it's in a slab.
I'm sure the experts will give you better answer,,, but until then it's like a slab saying the coin is real & not graded.
The 89 code means that is a genuine item that has not been details graded, but also has not been assigned a numerical grade.

Q1) What does it mean when a PCGS encapsulated medal has "89" on the label in the field normally reserved for the 'Sheldon Scale' grade (i.e., 1-70)?
A1) In the subject case, it means that the medal is genuine and in "brilliant uncirculated" condition.
For reference, a screenshot from the associated "cert verification" follows:

Q2) Where is the NFC chip located in a PCGS holder?
A2) The NFC chip is located inside of the label.
For reference, a screenshot of the location follows:

Note - this PCGS video also highlights the location of the NFC chip.

On a PCGS label, "89" is not a grade.
Instead, it's "No Grade Code" that describes the item as Brilliant Uncirculated.
