Modern Basketball box ripping question

A buddy of mine is getting back into the hobby after 20 years and likes the look of Donruss Optic Basketball (due to the Rated Rookie symbol, no doubt). I am lost when it comes to hobby vs retail vs mega vs whatever other variants are out there. Can anyone tell me - which type of boxes should he buy for the best possible chance at big hits? I'd be grateful for any links/pics.

Biggest hits will come out of hobby for autos and numbered cards for sure - they are also the most expensive. Old Optic you could still pull good stuff out of retail blasters and mega boxes, but unless there is a class with 2-3 high ceiling guys like the Zion/Ja year or Luka and Trae it is tough. Need 2-3 mega rookies plus 3-4 next level like with Tyler Herro, Coby White… hope this helps.
Thanks! I should've specified, he's all about this last draft class so it's 2021-22 specifically.
Ok so Mega boxes are a type of retail? And he should stick to Hobby? Are there different variations of Hobby boxes?
