Grade or not grade?
Found in regular roll of nickels in Fort Worth area. In good condition for a circulated nickel , obverse seems to be misaligned a little but just curious if it worth it. Still a very good find for being in pocket change basically .

Maybe a cool find but not cool enough to have graded. To me, it's only worth a nickel regardless of mintmark.

The real questions should be:
Does anyone care about this mint mark position variety?
Does anyone pay a premium for it?
If they pay a premium, is it worth the cost of having it slabbed.
I suspect the answer to all three questions is "NO".
PCGS does not grade the variety. I would save your money. I do not know much of the particular variety. Is it a premium one in that grade? It is circulated, so I would just sell it and move on.
Here's an article written by Q David Bowers a few years ago talking about this nickel
https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/jefferson-nickel-denver-mint-mark-varieties-bowers.html#:~:text=The mintage of the 1975-D nickel is 410,875,300,,times rarer than one with a regularly-placed D!

Interesting that it can be put in a "Mint Error" holder when it is a variety.

nice find. did the thread about this recently spur you to look?
considering bonser's example sold for well over $300 and i have to presume that all of that premium didn't come from it just being his, although probably a nice chunk, personally, if i had an order going out for it to ride along, i would. depending on how patient you are, maybe an economy sub? also, you'll probably have to pay for attribution as i didn't check the pops/price guide to see if it has its own pcgs #.
edited to add, nevermind. the bonser example was sent under the error service. (makes it easier to sell in venues like Heritage)
you have 2 options, send it without the error service (perfectly acceptable) or the error service with the generic attribution. either way, personally, i'd send it off with a group of other coins (to help average out expenses per coin). if you do, show it to us in its new plastic!
anyone wanting one of these (and i'm sure there are a few people out there) will not care so much about the error attribution. the coin is obviously what it is!

Nice circulation find👌👍
Excellent find! Congrats! I have been searching for one of these since they were discovered. Very scarce variety! Congrats on the find! I do not know if grading will help the value of this coin. I am surprised that no one found it until now and it is in such a low grade. This coin has lots of value in any grade. Any error enthusyist will be happy to have one. Let me know if you eBay it. It would be fun to know the value of such a worn example!!
Nice find! Lots of people are looking for that one, and without success.

An example graded PCGS XF40 from the Fred Weinberg collection sold last month for $960. Seems to me that coin is absolutely worth the grading fees:

A quick search came up empty - can someone share a link to the other thread discussing this variety?

Very collectible variety. Congrats on finding it.

i'm looking too now since you asked. i 100% remember seeing that article about the 75-d mpmm and i'm not active on any other general coin forums but a member of several, so if i saw it, it had to have started here but even though i said thread, it could've just been a post but either way a search should turn something up. i even looked up part of the coinworld link. perhaps i need to scroll my comments because it was fairly recently. (edited to add: it is possible went to a coinworld article from a link here but was completely unrelated and i saw the 75-d link and clicked it from their site but i started here. i didn't sleep as well as i woulda liked last night so my efforts until i get a nap (if) will be sub-par)
edited to add LOL
no wonder i wasn't finding anything i had the time frame from 1 day from today. >< forgot to change it to a year.
scrolling my comments actually turned it up!!!!

i do recall that there was at least one other thread, i'm pretty sure about this 75-d but much longer ago. there is a chance it was about another really far out of range placement mint mark. there have actually been a few threads about different ones over the years here, obviously. is there any coin related subject NOT covered here? lol

Where is @joeykoins ? This is variety he thought he had found a couple weeks ago.
This find is proof that they are out there.
.
i wonder if it was under error because of the MAD and then it also has MPMM?

All I can say is............WOW!
Pete
@JBK Maybe laying low after a few closed threads.
WOW! Take the money and run! (and hope the underbidders are just as enthused today as they were in the Weinberg auction.)
Thx for filling me in. I had missed the previous drama.
Worth getting graded, and very rare. I've been looking for years and still haven't found one.
If I remember correctly, this variety can be found with a decent obverse cud, which would possibly explain why examples are so hard to find.
Nice find!
One of the finer modern examples of a misplaced MM.
.
you quoted me but didn't type anything?

I found an image of a late state one with the Cud, posted by Robert Adams on the Cuds 'R' Us Facebook group:
So it can be labeled a variety and an error? Which would be the TPG label distinction?
I messed up lol. Sorry about that
I appreciate everyone chiming in , regardless of weather it’s worth a lot or not, as a collector I am just glad I found one.
I also would really like to get across to others especially younger collectors that you can still find somewhat rare and scarce coins in your change if you know what you are looking for. Who knows what the value will be 10 to 15 years down the road when I start liquidating my collection lol
Thank you all once again
agreed.
It is a variety not an error.
Annoying

Ya, that one is stirring up some excitement with new Jefferson collectors and roll hunters, so as a old Jefferson guy myself I welcome the enthusiasm to these next generation collectors

BingoBrian, it is a very nice coin. I would certainly consider purchasing it.
.
it is a variety AND and error. it would be interesting to know if it were subbed under error AND variety, even if just minor. either way. fun thread!

Very interesting, I just assumed it would be a variety but I can see it both ways also.of course even though I been collecting for about 15 years, I realize I still have a crap ton to learn especially since I collect coins and currency lol. I feel like I learn new stuff daily .
I feel like it would be just a variety but I could be wrong ,

numismatics is BIG.
it takes this a community like this to accomplish what gets accomplished and i doubt there are any members here long-term that don't learn quite a bit from others, myself included. no way i would have stayed around this long otherwise.
