Let's say I wanted to add to my collection of 8 Reales coins. 1779-1783. Any New World mint.
How would I make a request? Are there rules and customs I need to consider?
What about back story? How much is ok? Like I have great backstory. Like this.

Oh. I got the descendant of Sebastian de Eslava, my cousin Sebastian Eslava to do a cameo on this. He's a Colombian TV star. His father was one of the most famous bullfighters in history.

I suggest you look into buying from various auction houses such as Heritage and Stacks Bowers. Heritage always seems to have coins from this period up for sale. Daniel Sedwick auctions is a great place as well. Ebay can also be of help.
Most here are collectors versus been sellers. Yes some sell here and there but it is not constant like the auction houses I mentioned.
When collecting coins from Mexico, Central America or South America patience is key some coins show up once per year and sometimes once per decade or longer. Some dates and combinations of mint marks (variations) pop up for sale much more often.
If you are collecting Mexican portrait 8 reales most are not that hard to locate. Of course there are a few very hard ones to locate as well.

I prefer the common ones and thanks for the advice. I want to give them away to people as my card. It's physical proof of my story. It cuts through everything. Don't listen to me. People make stuff up and embellish. Take this coin. This Creole coin. Google it yourself. Visit a knowledgeable person yourself. Join a forum yourself. Learn like I learned. That's the only way you'll begin to believe me. That's why I need the coins.
