A Head Coach told me long ago, the thing that sets football apart and makes it different and better than all other ball sports is the shape of the football....he said the football makes the game totally unpredictable......He was right and I've forgot that. Make all the preparations and predictions you want......many times the game is comes down to the crazy bounce.......Nobody knows what the ball is going to do once it hits the ground...... From the opening kickoff to the final second......

    Well the football design today is based off the rugby ball, being that the roots of today's football is formed from elements of rugby and soccer. In the 1870 Harvard coined this play style "Boston Game" and other colleges liked this new variation. Walter Camp aka "The Father of Football", was a halfback and team captain for Yale and helped in creating the first rulebook on this new soccer/rugby hybrid that was catching on by creating the 11 man team and moving the ball a certain yardage in a set amount downs. So that may help answer Landrysfedora's question as well as give you another "wobbly ball" sport to add with rugby.

    That is one of the greatest plays in sports history in my opinion, it doesn't get shown enough around here, Larry Bird was truly phenomenal.
