It kind of seems like a doubled die to me, if it is not hub doubling. The extra raised areas have texture/design elements (fur) it seems, and is not flat like machine or shelf doubling.

Dare I ask what NNC graded it?

A laughable MS65. The LCS dealer gifted it to me over the weekend.
I feel like it is kind of an exciting find, at least for me as there are no known doubled dies for the business strikes.
I will try for some different pictures and re-examine some other business strike2005 D nickels.

It looks like die deterioration from the photos to me.
