New coin lighting method: System-H

I've been using a lighting method for a few years and has worked so well that I have decided to make it available on my coin photo systems. The method is basically a ringlight, but with variability in height so that the light angles can be adjusted. The "clock positions" of the lights can also be adjusted by masking-off the areas of the ringlight that you don't want light coming from.

I built my first such system for a form member who wanted to shoot medals, so having an un-masked ringlight was appropriate. His system is based on my original System-9 ( http://www.macrocoins.com/example-system-9.html ) but instead of the gooseneck lights, it uses a ringlight.

Here is the new System-H:

I shot a small Lincoln Medal with this system, varying the height from very high to very low, see below:

I then shot a different medal, with what I thought was the best height to give nice shadow detail around the devices. You may have chosen a higher or lower light position depending on your taste, but that's the advantage of this system in that it's easily and infinitely adjustable:

Anyway, I'm looking for feedback on this new System-H. I can mount the ringlight to any System-9 or onto System-400/500 with some small modifications, so these can be retrofitted onto existing systems as well as new systems.

Great idea. Light angle does play off the design nicely. I think you've got a hit! Peace Roy

I don’t take many photos (of anything), but if I did take coin pics this looks like a fantastic solution.

For folks who have purchased one of my System-400/Q, the diagram below shows how the system is modified to convert to System-H. The stock 200mm rail is not long enough for both the camera and ringlight, so a second 200mm rail must be added. The original rail and clamp are reversed so that the camera mounts to the clamp, and the rail to the column. This gives full movement for both the camera and ringlight along the two rails.
