1914-D Lincoln Cent Counterfeit (link included)

I'm calling this one counterfeit due to the font style of the mint mark and its incorrect position.
I also question the deformity or ridge around the rim, but I felt that possibly just circulation damage.

Added mintmark. It's out of position, and bold compared to the rest of the coin.

.
not sure what your level of comfort is with counterfeit detection, 14-d 1c specifically but to give you confidence if you wonder if this is close or not, it is not even close; so anything resembling this or anything like it, RUN!

Added mint mark. Wrong position, wrong style.
There has been a few phonies I've posted that some here QUESTIONED them!
There has been a couple that I still feel certain was FAKE, while no one else did because the authenticity markers were in place!
So posting these on the forum has in the past gotten me in some HOT WATER (its been a while sense that's happened).
That means when I post these Lincoln Cents I have to keep in mind that there is I'll say two members that check EVERY thread I post and they only comment when I make what them deem a questionable call.
There were time earlier on because of that that I had pretty decided to just quit forum.
But! there was a few other members that messaged me and encouraged me to keep at it and advised me on a better approach to posting these threads.
I know the ones that don't like me doing this are still watching, still waiting, so I'm careful when I make these threads.
Most of all the 14-D's I find are altered dates, I'm a little better at spotting the 09SVDB's but I'm getting better with the 14-D's
Thanks for Following Along

So far, I see opinions for both counterfeit and added mintmark.

@LanceNewmanOCC
I also don't like to miscall a phony that I know isn't genuine like,
Its an altered say 44-D and me call it a counterfeit!
same for calling something that's a counterfeit buts its an altered coin.
You'll notice that the title of my threads won't say either, its just a PHONY!
The case with this coin, is it genuine, is it altered, or is it a counterfeit?
I went out on a limb and stated that I was calling this one a "Counterfeit" I was sure it wasn't genuine.
But, if you notice some in this thread have the idea that its a 14-P altered by adding an "S" mint mark?
But when I look at the reverse of this coin certain details just don't look genuine.
Look at the details in the grains of the wheat ears?

We working working on our comments at the same time! but we all 100% agree its a phony!

“Phony” is typically used as a synonym for fake. So calling the coin “phony” instead of counterfeit serves as a pretty weak butt-covering precaution.😉

let me put it like this. it is good to practice and train but i wouldn't lose any sleep over it. if everyone on this forum put their A game hat on we still wouldn't come close to stopping counterfeits from being made/sold. it is what it is. do what you can, don't let it drag you down, as much as possible, prepare for another day.
some coins, from the images provided, will not let us be 100% and sometimes it isn't worth the effort. if this is an ebay coin, we have enough info to nuke it. in this situation, i really don't care if the coin is authentic or counterfeit, it is not legit, that being said, for conversation sake, i'd lean towards it being fake despite it looking like it has genuine characteristics, including all the goop, stains etc but i don't know 100% and i'm not putting any time into this one. just pacin' myself. (i see the ebay link now above the image)
if your goal is to help and save someone from buying crap and consider what someone else said about how you approach it all.

I use an expanded definition of "Counterfeit" ...
Looks like you all have it covered . Mintmark just is so out of placed.

I also try and pace myself & you're right about the amount of these that's why I work in a narrow field of them, the Lincoln Cents.
I do the newly listed search for these a few times a day and when I find one I almost always post it on the forum, sometimes if I run into two or three a day I'll work them in the background.
I can't say for 100% sure that the group and I are getting all of say the bad 09SVDB's but we've made the purchase of one on ebay a much better chance of being genuine!
The group and I have even busted several that was in Lincoln collection sets.
We're probably near 150 of these sense I started doing this, we've saved a BUNCH of people from getting ripped off!
I'm glad you've started following these threads!

good. that's a big part of the goal. saving people from themselves and those looking to bamboozle someone(s).
i'm mostly (loosely) watching the newest links to counterfeits to put nuke bids on them. quicker than reporting and guarantee no one else gets the coin(s). we used to do it here years ago. probably had several million dollars worth of bids over many many listings. (used to get our chops busted for various reasons by some members and they weren't entirely wrong but it did work too and it's going to work now as well)
