Upcoming: 128th Anniversary of “bunting” in baseball!

That’s right; June 16th, 1894 was the first recorded bunt in the game of baseball! It happened between Yale and Princeton!

    Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.

    The above anecdotes try to tell the history of bunting and squeeze plays, as a concept. I'm curious about something, and I'm sure some of you can help me out. I could envision and extrapolate multiple scenarios where this would have happened inadvertently. Does anyone think that this is how the idea/s was born? How did the fielders and runners of the 19th century react to an "accidental" bunt/squeeze play opportunity. Would the ball just die there in the dirt, usually and quickly rolling foul?

    I hope this question makes sense.
