Hmmm. Getting Antsy about my unopened. Advise appreciated!

I love my unopened, though pails in comparison to a lot of y’all; but I’m getting antsy. Here’s what I have unopened:
1981 topps baseball vending case
1981 Topps baseball wax box
1986 topps baseball vending case
1986 topps baseball wax case (early serial numbered too, from what I’ve ascertained).
I want to rip it all to shreds!!!
Well, I want to go through my 81 vending case, see if I could put together a really nice, top-notch batch of cards to sub into PSA.
Or would I have a better shot at going through my 86’s?
I know I’d have To be EXTREMELY selective, but knowing my luck an unopened 81 vending bb case would go for like 25k or something in 5 years and I’d end up with one gem mint 10 card of pete LaCock or something. Thoughts? Fight the urge, or embrace it?!

    Fight it. :)

Leave them unopened. There are millions of 81 and 86's out there that are nice but not graded and probably won't be at todays prices or future prices. There are not a lot of unopened cases of 81 and mabe a little more 86's.

I have some 86 FASC Rack boxes (i like retaining black bordered cards....)
But I've never heard about the allure of early serial numbered cards in the 86 set.
    What makes them desirable?

I busted two rack cases of 81's back in 2007 - didn't hit any (ZERO) HOF 10's. They were tough before the standards got tougher.

Keep them sealed. (and I love to rip too)

Completely agree. I bought eight boxes of 81s around the same time and didn't get a single 10 either. Tons of 9s but zero 10s.

But that first PSA 10 fernado would be 100,000+ card I think

I thought there was some Roger Clemens cards and others that have a blue streak in the top left/right that may have came from earlier print runs? 🤷‍♂️

Maybe just the wax box… 😖

The Fernando’s in that sub were as perfect as could be. Sold them for peanuts back then. Always regretted not trying them a few times.

All of the Fernandos I have seen, If the front is dead centered the back is way , way, off centered dropping them from 10 to 9. I do not think these new graders would give a 10 the way they are grading cards now. But I hope I'm wrong.

Go out a buy a few 81 vending boxes for 400 and rip those. Leave the case as is!

  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭✭✭

Or wrap your case and open just a few. But for sure don’t rip an entire one by yourself.

If you want to lose your desire to rip, go buy a single wax box, rip that, send them in for grading and see what grades you get back. That’ll eliminate any need to have raw cards for grading.

I have at least 6 exactly like this. Dead center on the front and almost off the edge on the back. That card is tough just to get as a 9.

if you had vending boxes, id say rip. but since you have cases....leave them be. and as for the wax, leave them as well.
