WILL PCGS ACCEPT PROOF SETS IN THEIR ORIGINAL HOLDERS?

I know there was a thread awhile back on this subject, but I can't seem to find it. I just purchased a 1981-S Proof set with Type 2 coins and would like to have them graded, but would prefer not to crack them out of the government case--if possibleimage

    Fletch,

What I understood from these past threads was that PCGS WILL accept one set - and only one set per order for grading in the original US Mint Holders. Dave

I remeber the thread, and everyone said yes.

  • Thank you all. I only have one set to submit, so I'll try it.image

When you do a submission like this , how do you designate each coin with the line number , PCGS # , etc , on the card which is supposed to be placed in the 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 flip , when all the coins are contained in a holder ? This is just something I wondered , as I was going to submit a silver proof set like this. Thanks !

I've been wondering the same thing. I have an outstanding 1996 Silver proof set with an incredible JFK in it. And an incredible Washington. Too bad PCGS doesn't give out PR70s anymore. I think these would qualify.

I have sent in multiple sets on one invoice, and have never had a problem.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Why not put the sticker with the invoice number and line number below the coin on the plastic mint case and list each coin as if they were individual.

    on the invoice.

Prep your submission just like any other. You should still create the flips with the stickers on them so they will have something to use when they crack the set.
  • Very good idea smprfi. Tag both case and flips to help keep them straight and from getting damaged.

  • Goose--I just sent in some SAC's that were cut out of 2002 Mint Sets (still in celophane), so we'll see. I don't know about entire mint sets. Maybe someone should send PCGS an email and ask them some specifics about this issue--both proof sets and mint sets. Any volunteers???image
  • sent in both mint sets and proof never had any problems my last shippment had 263 coin most mint sets as they came from mint.

The answer is Yes, and there are no limits on the number of encased sets submitted.

The only restriction is that ALL of the coins in the set must be graded (and paid for).
