1942/1 Fishing Lure in PCGS MS66

Thie image is pretty lame, you can't get a look at the overdate. Certainly a "wow" coin for the best collection out there. Too bad it missed FB, but it sure looks close in the pic.

1942/1 10c PCGS MS66 Population 1 at PCGS in MS66 with 4 graded 66 FB. Very desirable overdate issue and a pretty coin. Close to FB.. ......$18,950.00

A great example of why, if I were to collect fishing lures, I would strive for the best struck non full band coins. More bang for the buck!

Okay, I've been wondering about this for a while. Why do you guys call the Mercury dimes fishing lures?

The Renowned Board Member " Mr Spooly" always Messes with the Merc Collectors and one Day a Few Months ago He Coined the Term " Fishing Lure" for the Merc Dime. It Has Stuck atleast here and Sometimes on the Coin Board. Mr Spooly is Insanely Jealous of the Fine Outstanding Merc Collectors who Participate here in the Registry. image

Spooly is an OK guy. I suspect that he's really a closet Merc collector, and one day will shock us all by registering his set.image

      Fairlaneman,
Thanks for the history on the fishing lures. I always assumed it was due to the reverse. That fasces thing looks looks like something you tie to the end of 10lb. test line on the end of your Zebco! Bet you could catch a nice swordfish with one of those!

In truth, I wish the US Gov made coins this cool these days. Where is a good battle axe reverse when you need one?

Looks like an MS-65 to me. The eye appeal is average for the grade (at 65).

The winner needs to send me this coin in order for it to live with other No Bands coins. It will be lonely in a FB collection.
