Airbrush hatchet jobs.

Show us some Topps airbrush efforts that are either somewhat confusing or just plain failures. I’ll start with this one.
Bobby Orr only played 26 games with the Blackhawks over two seasons after his trade from Boston. Getting a photo of him was not easy. Topps or O-Pee-Chee did a decent job on Bobby’s airbrush job. They just forgot one minor detail. His teammate from Boston sitting next to him on the Bruins bench. Lol

It'll be hard to top this absolute masterpiece.
Not my card, but hard to beat…

Minton looks like he's taking his picture to register as a sex offender.
I honestly never even noticed those 70s football helmet jobs. In fairness, I have never collected football for most of those years but those are astounding! I guess it was a licensing issue? Also, that Nolan made me laugh. For some odd reason I thought of the "King of the Hill" cartoon.
Not my card, but I remember this one. A's Bob Locker and Reggie Jackson airbrushed into Cubs uniforms.
I love this one, because not only are three Mets airbrushed into Astros, but Rusty Staub gets to make a clandestine appearance in a set where he has no real card!
Why no 73 Staub card ? Contract issue with Topps ? Boy could he and Felix Milan choke up on that bat.

He didn’t have a card in ‘72 either. I’m not sure why. When people say “contract dispute,” I can’t really understand that. I believe Topps had a fixed compensation arrangement with the players, I don’t think it was negotiated on a player by player basis. And it’s not like there was any other competition at that point in time. But who knows?
When I hear airbrush, this is what comes to mind. Has to be top 5.

The 1976 Orr is bad too. Who did his eyebrows ?
Is the Brett Hill rookie an airbrush job ?
Great thread! Love seeing these. Especially the hockey cards which I do not have much of or see often. Thanks for post.

It's hard to actually see any airbrush here. Besides the tanned face and chipmunk teeth, and the sky, field, wall, stache, hair, neck, nostril holes, bushy close to unibrow, and eyeballs, and cap, and jersey. In fact, is Greg Minton a real human ? What the heck is that ?? Is that whole thing airbrushed ? Is that a piece of art verse a baseball card ?

This one, always stuck out like a sore thumb - even in an era of questionable O-Pee-Chee artistic decisions.
There’s something bizarre about this one. Just doesn’t look remotely real.
He pitched for Texas in 1972.
Funny thing is Oakland and Texas traded Linblad back and forth 5 times from 1969-1977.
Is the 73 Topps Reggie Jackson airbrushed ? That is one peculiar image.
