Stock Market Crashing, but the coin I won on HA last night still as valuable

JW77JW77 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭✭✭

Some observations from last night
1) I jumped on the last night just as the Mercury dimes were on the block. I saw most PCGS product going for 10% to 30% over price guides before buyer premium, and some CAC PCGS product for double. I'm not a Mercury Dime collector, so the price guide value that HA was showing is all I'm going by. It just seems like this series was red hot.
2) NGC product was selling for deep discounts vs Identical graded PCGS product, unless it has a bean, which were few. I'm talking about 40% to 50% of the PCGS holdered coins.(this comment is for all denomination, not just mercury dimes). This disparity is as great as I have seen.

Finally, i was happy to win a Barber Half for significantly less than i thought it would go for. What were your observations form last night and let's see some of the candy that you won.

I got out of stocks a few months ago for safer havens. I’ll get back in at 25,000 on the DJIA.

This is about to get interesting.

I bought a coin from the Stacks auction last month, a forum member, and GC this month so I was too tapped out to buy anything in this Heritage auction. The lots I was watching the prices were strong regardless of the plastic brand.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.

@JW77 Very nice pickup at what looks like a reasonable price....I was watching that one, but did not bid. That was one long auction I must say. I did pick up this little baby, and can't wait to see it:

wow, what a clean coin and amazing luster, congrats. I wonder if the late night eliminated some of the live action, particularly as we got to the last 100 lots. Also, thanks for nor bidding, you save me at least 2 bid increments :D

I wish i did the same, but at this point I'll just hold and pray for now. Although i have been 40% in cash, so at least I'm not a total idiot :/

Looking forward to watching the HA Simpson session coming up in a few minutes. Going to be too rich for me to bid, but much more enjoyable to watch then all the red I'm seeing on CNBC.

Ha! glad I saved you some money...I actually need the 1897 Half for my set! Here's my proof Barber's:

I noticed the PCGS premium - going on for some time but does seem the gap getting wider. The cac sticker premium is a bit annoying to me - it has become a bit over promoted imo and now I look for coins without it I hopes I can get a better price and then pay the 9 to 16 dollars myself for the cac sticker.

Most of these are not in my chosen areas so I didn’t follow them. I still feel like the prices on gold dollars are too high even for common dates in common grades. Yet the prices go up and I stay on the sideline waiting for a correction.

There are a lot of coins on eBay deemed valuable collecting dust for well over 5 years. So, comparing coins to stocks they need to be something that's liquid meaning you can sell at a profit or at least break even within mere minutes.

To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!

I'm not worried as long as they don't cut my dividends. Mostly invested in cash producing stock at my age!

The US stock market isn't even close to crashing. It's still in deep "nose bleed" territory.

    Nice coin posted by OP.

I noticed that early gold was not particularly strong and that double eagles were weak and a lot including CAC ones were selling well below PCGS price guide.

I always wanted a cameo gold piece for my box of 20. The larger denominations were out of my range, but i was pleasantly surprised to be able to win this one on platinum night for only $12.5k plus fee. I thought that was a very reasonable price.

Congrats! That’s a beautiful coin. It’s gem with a sticker and the price is very reasonable. One of these days I’ll hopefully get a proof gold coin.
